Temptation has not come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will also make a way out together with the temptation, so that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
You might need to choose between the lesser of two evils, but NEVER choose between two sins. There is always a way to avoid sin. First of all, we can’t be tempted with things we have not considered – that’s spending effort thinking on them. Eve didn’t automatically act on what the serpent said. She LOOKED and CONSIDERED and SAW. That’s when she acted. It’s the same with us. If we’re doing as God advised in Proverbs 4:20-22 and we’re keeping the Word before our eyes; and if we’re doing as God advised in Joshua 1:8 and we’re meditating on His Word day and night; how much time will we have to think about things we could be tempted by? It’s all about where we put our focus and KEEP our focus. We succumb to temptations because we’re not seeing the Way out that God has made for us. If we’d consistently refocus our attentions on Him and His Word, what little temptation that could occur wouldn’t have a hold on us. We’d escape without being scathed. We’d take the Way out so that we wouldn’t pick sin. Not a lesser of two sins, but no sin. We’re redeemed! Sin isn’t part of us anymore. We have to MAKE ourselves sin. If we have the Word as both our foundation and the focus of our attention, sin will have no power, no draw, and no appeal. We’re not perfect like Jesus, bur every day we could get more attention on Him and less on the things that attract our temptations. Every day more like Him and less like that sinner we USED to be.
