“Get up, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry out against it, because their wickedness has come up before Me” (Jonah 1:2). The report of Nineveh’s wickedness had reached up to the Throne. The same thing happened with the cities in the Valley of the Jordan (Genesis 18:20-21). The same thing happened with the Tower (Genesis 11:5). Why is it that when trouble comes we always think we need to tell God about it before He’ll realise something bad is happening? A man of God once reported a conversation with the Lord where the Lord told him, ‘when you prayed is NOT when I learned about that sin’. God does not rely on our prayers to keep informed about what’s going on (2 Chronicles 16:9). Our prayers to Him are not His CNN. He KNOWS the hearts of every human being (1 Samuel 16:7). He promised never to leave humanity, so He is always there wherever you are (Isaiah 7:3; Deuteronomy 31:6). Like God told that man of God, when we pray is when we ‘get rid of that sin’. We need to stop thinking of confessing sin as letting Him know about it. It’s much more us admitting we’re ready to deal with it God’s way. God is ALWAYS ready to help us through repentance. To help us get from where we are to where we are supposed to be. Confession isn’t meant to be drab and dreary, creeping out of a closet with hat in hand hoping not to get squashed. Confession is a joyful time. It’s getting right with God. It’s scooping out the cancer and letting Him restore us. It might not be comfortable, but it is VERY freeing. And isn’t that a time for rejoicing? Knowing that you’re once again (or for the first time) obedient in that area? We don’t have to wait until He comes looking. We have Holy Spirit! He’s already here! Whenever the Word shows you that you missed it, get His light on it and get free from that broken thinking. Let Him restore you. And then celebrate you’re free!
