As for me, I said: “O Lord, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you.
Psalm 6:2 (emphasis added)
There is no way to sugar-coat this. SIN IS BAD. It is NOT GOOD. Sin has consequence. YES, Jesus paid the price for sin. He did not do that so that you can go on sinning. “What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:1-4).
There is always a consequence to sin. Now, does this verse specifically reference PHYSICAL healing? Probably not. Especially in context. This section of scripture is speaking of our SPIRITUAL state. It is speaking of the cleansing of sin from our souls and the restoration of our spirit unto His righteousness. But the spiritual ALWAYS affects the physical. You can’t get away from it. If the back of your vehicle starts rusting out, sooner or later it will affect the front or impact the vehicle’s operation. Jesus died and we can be CLEANSED of sin. In fact, with Jesus’ nature as our own we have been made completely new (2 Corinthians 5:17). If we have been reborn into Jesus, then our new nature is UNABLE to sin (1 John 3:9). But we DO sin. Everyone does (1 John 1:8). What is the deal then?
Well, we were saved by GRACE, not because we deserved it (Ephesians 2:8-9). No matter HOW much we did, we could NEVER have done enough to earn our salvation. It is IMPOSSIBLE. No matter how good we are, how generous, how kind, how joyful, how loving, how caring, or any other good thing. Our works mean NOTHING. Our works don’t make us good. They don’t made us worthy of His love.
In the same way, no matter how much sin you do He still loves you. Your act of sin doesn’t earn you damnation any more than your act of good earned you salvation. What sin DOES is separate you from your fellowship with the Lord God. Yahweh is righteous and in Him there is NO darkness (1 John 1:5). He WILL NOT fellowship with those in darkness. If you sin, you will have repenting to do to get right with the Lord. Not get right in SALVATION, but get right so that you can fellowship with Him. If we are not OBEYING we are not in FELLOWSHIP. We CANNOT step forward with the Lord if we are out of step with Him. He does not LEAVE US, but He MUST switch from revelation and fellowship to correction and calling.
He is Holy and we are to be Holy like Him, not sinful because we think we have a get out of jail free card (Leviticus 20:7). “Like obedient children, do not comply with the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance, but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct, for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy”” (1 Peter 1:14-16). Our SPIRITUAL health MUST BE GOOD before we can expect our physical health to have a chance. Without walking in the ways of the Lord, we’re stuck with the ways of the natural. As good as medicine and healthcare are, they can only do so much. There are terminal sicknesses and diseases here in this world. There are chronic sicknesses and diseases. There are conditions and mental diagnosis. A plethora of conditions of varying severity that we are told to seek to MANAGE. They TREAT, they do not CURE. But there is NOTHING impossible for God (Luke 1:37). “Dear friend, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul” (3 John 1:2).
What is the principle of today’s verse? If there is sin in your life it CAN affect your physical health. If you are altaring to the curse, you are opening doors to the possibility of the devil working against you. He is an OPPORTUNISTIC preyer on the weak, not a disciplined hunter. If we are always speaking death, anxiety, and committing sin, HOW can we expect that to invite the Lord to manifest His health in our bodies? Why would He do that to someone who is disobedient, not fellowshipping with Him, and actively walking the other way? “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love its use will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). Remember Jesus died and got resurrected for His OBEDIENT children. We must enter into Jesus and abide in Him and what He did for us in humble submission before we can reach out and appropriate what He has accomplished for us. We are to be His first and foremost.
We need to strive to be right before God (Luke 10:27). We need to humble ourselves and submit to Him (James 4:7). We need to SEEK HIS FACE (Psalm 105:4). To grasp a deep knowledge of His love for us (Ephesians 3:19). We need a focus on what we CAN’T see (2 Corinthians 4:18). Once we do THAT on a regular basis, THEN we will be in a position to look at what we CAN see because we will be seeing with HIS eyes (Ephesians 1:18). “Seek the Lord and the strength he gives. Seek his presence continually!” (1 Chronicles 16:11).
Sin MAY be keeping you from enjoying healing. Sin and disobedience water down our belief. They are AT OUR DOOR, but we are not meant to fool with them. We are meant to KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED (Genesis 4:7). IF we are grounded in the WORD, then we will KNOW what the Father said about EVERYTHING. We will KNOW what Jesus DID and what is AVAILABLE NOW to each and every one of God’s children. We are to humble ourselves and submit to His will, His Word, and what He says is right and wrong. When you KNOW the Word and you are RIGHT with Yahweh God, then it is easy to stand on His promises. Your belief will shine through the darkness of this world (Matthew 5:16). STAND on the WORD and the devil will do to you what he did to Jesus: RUN AWAY! (Matthew 4:11; James 4:7).
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Genesis 17:19
“God said, “No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual covenant for his descendants after him.” Jesus was the seed of Abraham. You can follow the genealogy of Jesus in two different places of the bible (Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38). “But God said to Abraham, “Do not be upset about the boy or your slave wife. Do all that Sarah is telling you because through Isaac your descendants will be counted” (Genesis 21:12). Jesus was the child of a child of a child of a child of Issac, a child of Abraham. An eternal child and king through whom ALL have life. Through whom the Gentile is grafted into the family and nation of Israel INTO the Covenant of Abraham. Jesus is the seed of Issac. Jesus is the child of the promise. Jesus IS Messiah.
