“The one who has ears, let him hear!” (Matthew 11:15).
If we have ears, then we should make sure they’re working. Pretty basic stuff, but Jesus said it a LOT. Humans have a tendency to tune out the speech of others. Ruach HaKodesh is a talker. He’s talking ALL the time. But if we’ve closed our ears or they aren’t working, we’re going to miss it. We can’t afford that. We cannot afford to not hear Ruach HaKodesh. He informs EVERY aspect of our lives. We need to hear those words. Now since we’re made in the image of Elohim (Genesis 1:26), Ruach HaKodesh has ears too. And He wants to hear OUR words in the same way that we NEED to hear His.
Just like with the ladder Jacob saw at Bethel (Genesis 28:10-19), communication is a two-way undertaking. It must go both ways for it to work. Otherwise it isn’t communication. It’s just talking at someone. You might as well talk at a wall. No one likes the feeling that they aren’t being heard. It is VERY true that Ruach HaKodesh is the Spirit of Truth. He is absolute in His truthfulness and reports truthfully on what Elohim says – Elohim who is far above our level of existence (Isaiah 55:9). But He’s not talking down to us. It’s not about letting the poor simpletons in on the real deal. It’s about getting us to listen, obey, and take a step closer to Elohim. It’s about bringing us up to His level and understanding what we find there.
At the same time, He’s about listening to us. Our thoughts, our interests, and the things we think are problems. One of the reasons He’s interested is to show us His take on them. Suggestions to tweak them, improve them, or in some cases to cut them out. Ruach HaKodesh is intimately interested in everything in our lives. He doesn’t want to take a dictatorial stance with us. In fact, He refuses to. If we won’t dialogue with Him, He’ll show us the black and white truth of the situation, but He won’t force us to do anything. He wants to talk with us, show us scriptures on things, help us see problems as situations in which Adonai has the answer, and build a real relationship with us. He’s not some buddy-buddy feel-good pal, but He wants to cooperate with us hand in hand to get us to where we need to be. He isn’t against us. He’s for us and He loves us. He’s the one we can really TALK to.
A third of our prayer life is praise. A third of our prayer life is speaking direct requests or speaking direct affirmations/declarations OR speaking indirectly in heavenly languages (tongues). The last third of our prayer life should be the consistent and near-constant conversation with Ruach HaKodesh. It’s the mental and under-the-breath talking through every aspect of our lives and listening for answers. Think of those nature films with a narrator. Well, our back and forth discussion with Ruach HaKodesh is the ‘narration’ for the film of our life. It’s in that dialogue that we find the Fruit being offered to us. It’s in that dialogue that we realign our thoughts to be in harmony with the Word – which He reminds us of if we’ve put it inside ourselves. It’s in that dialogue that we start living life by Him instead of in our own knowledge and experience. What is it the man of God said? I rarely pray for more than ten minutes, but I rarely go for more than ten minutes without praying. Amen.
We can develop an atmosphere of conversation with Ruach HaKodesh – audibly or not, but hopefully both. It’s OUR choice whether or not we listen to His voice. It’s OUR choice if we put the Word inside ourselves. The Word is kind of a common dictionary. It’s a Ruach HaKodesh to Human dictionary. It is the basis of everything we do and all the conversations we are ever going to have. If we put that inside by reading with intent and start checking in with Him for His opinion on everything (start small and work your way up), we’ll find a shift in our relationship. We’ll start hearing more and understanding what we hear. That still, soft voice will become our constant companion. The conversation will really start then. And like I said, Ruach HaKodesh is a TALKER. Once you give Him a place in your ears, you may find this truth: He NEVER stops.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Psalm 16:2
“Oh my soul you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. I have no good apart from you” Have you ever looked around and seen the good things in your home? A favoured pillow. A comfortable chair. A snack that doesn’t harm you and tastes good. A smell. A light source. A room arranged just how you like it. These are good things Elohim has given us. Once we really start looking, they are too innumerable to count. A gentle breeze, or maybe a powerful gale. A spring shower. A view. The sound of waves. A bird’s song. A fat rat running past. An owl. Or a Heron. Or a marmont. A cow. A seal. The moon at night. There are millions of things to see and hear. A thousand things to catch our attention. They’re all good. And they’re all from Elohim on high. Elohim is GOOD and when we find pleasure in something, our soul is acknowledging it. Our soul recognises the goodness of Elohim and how prevalent it is. Next time you see something and think that it is good, take a moment and praise Elohim for it. Acknowledge consciously what your soul unconsciously brings to your attention. Elohim is GOOD.
Your Daily Confession of Elohim’s Goodness:
I taste and see that Yahweh is good; I am blessed because I take refuge in Him.
