“What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? 20 You were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This is the kind of verse often heard around this time of year. Tying it into New Year’s Resolutions and the general desire to get fit and take back some of the ground lost during the holiday season snacking. But the verse wasn’t given during a turn-of-the-year sermon. It was a general standing question. How much of what we do, read, watch, listen to, eat, and expel that we wouldn’t if we were in the Temple of the Most High God? Think about it. Hundreds of thousands of people travel to Israel every year in order to see the places in scripture. They get tingles and excited about the landmarks and shrines that have been set up. They quiet themselves and bask in the sense of reverence physical sites can impart. But they are centuries old sites. They’re not active places of interaction with Yahweh. But WE are! Holy Spirit dwells in our bodies and He considers them His temple. Just as holy and set apart as the Temple of Jesus’ days.on Earth. How set apart are we keeping our thoughts? How much attention are we paying to what else comes in? Getting into a more intimate relationship with Holy Spirit is a great way to start thinking about those things in a productive way. He’s a great teacher, instructor, and corrector. Remember that He is there AND that HE says you’re the kind of place He wants to hang out. Ask Him to help you junk the place up, give it a little sprucing, and maybe a new set of drapes.
