“Therefore, bear fruit worthy of repentance” (Matthew 3:8). When we get into understanding Grace, it’s easy to start from a false place. The place that says if Grace abounds toward the sinful, then shouldn’t we sin more to get more Grace? No, the point isn’t to GET MORE Grace, but to UTILISE Grace. We do that by changing our life. When our thinking on something gets renewed to harmonize with God’s point of view (Romans 12:2), we let that new mindset manage our behaviour. We filter our actions and words through it. This gives us the fruit of repentance. The evidence of a changed life. Everyone will be able to see the changes in how we act and how we speak. Those closest to us will notice the most. But everyone we interact with regularly will see it. This isn’t showy actions calling everyone’s attention to what we are no longer doing/saying. This is simple and honest changes that prevent us from moving backward. This is a turn to go in an all new direction. This is repentance – something only available because of God’s Grace. So we don’t need more Grace, we only need to use the Grace we’ve been given and truly repent. Oh, how free Jesus makes you and Jesus makes me.
