Daily Affirmation #29

There is no creature that is not revealed in His sight, for all things are bare and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13, MEV). There are a lot of things we humans think are good. And based on our thinking, we decide how natural or permanent things are. For example, we might feel a certain way about ourselves. Perhaps since childhood dreaming of becoming a singing sensation. We then put our energies into it and strive, but we’re not that good. There are other talents and abilities we excel at, but they fall to the side because of how we feel about singing. We’ve always sung. We must be a singer, right? We work hard at it and if it doesn’t work out naturally, we use technology. Auto-tune and voice software and anything that works. Sure, it may limit what type of performances we can do, but it’s okay and we’re living the dream. We are now the thing we always knew we were supposed to be and in fact, were born to be. It is simply who we always were. Humans have this kind of thinking in almost every arena of ability, skill, and category we use to define ourselves. We mould the world around us to match who we feel we are. Mothers who can’t give birth or get pregnant, adopt. Those who lose limbs – or never had them – get prosthetics. The list goes on and on. Humans conquering limitations to be what they want to be. Some of this is good. Some of this is foolishness. Any of it can be armour against what is truly meant to be or the natural order of things (although we argue about what that is from a human standpoint). God, however, is not fooled. He sees beyond all of that to our true core. Our true nature. Our true motivations – even those we’ve covered up from our own selves for whatever reason. None of our rationality will work with God. He only deals in truth. That can be a daunting thought. It can also be a trigger to yell back at God about how He made us this way, so how can He be mad at us for being it! But that’s human thinking. I thank God that He has given us the Holy Spirit. That voice of Truth that can speak to us about every aspect of our lives using the truth of the Word and the Truth of His Nature. To inform us of His point of view and help us to change things until we align with it. Only God can say what is truly Truth, because only God is truly objective. May He show us all what things we need to change – letting His Word renew our thinking and the Fruit Of His Spirit to travel the bumps – even as He gives us the tools we can use with the spirit of power, love, and self-control that He gave us. May we become every day more like Jesus, and less like the image we used to carry about who we are. Amen.
