“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it” (Proverbs 3:27). My flesh doesn’t like the homeless. I don’t know why. I can see they are people. I can see they need help. I don’t take the few bad apples and smear the rest. But I would prefer not to deal with them. Same with the elderly. I’ll bend over backwards getting them what they need, but would prefer not to be the volunteer in the trenches. Again, not sure why. But my flesh doesn’t like two of the neediest groups we have in cities today. So we have determined to interact. We take time to do it. Even though I don’t always want to. And we determine to do it with respect. Why? Because it is in the power of our hands to do it. We haven’t started an organisation, broken ground on a soup kitchen, or begun managing a retirement complex. But I am working to make real contact where I can, when I can. Because I have the ability. And the need is there. It is in my power to do it. What’s in yours? Do you need to realign your perspective too? Don’t wait. Start today. Start with what you have.
