Therefore if you, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
Luke 11:13
Elohim only knows how to give good gifts (James 1:17). And every gift from Heaven is holy because Heaven is a place where holiness is (Isaiah 57:15). He is the Spirit of Elohim, but He is the Most Holy Spirit of God. He is Holy because He is God and God is Holy. There is no getting around this. He is God. God is Holy. Ruach HaKodesh is Holy.
This is why we are exhorted to maintain holy lives and bodies. “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the one who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:18-19). If Ruach HaKodesh isn’t holy, why would we need to maintain holiness? Would it matter if we were holy if He wasn’t? Wouldn’t ‘pretty goodness’ be sufficient? Right from the Old Testament Elohim called His people to be holy. Not on a whim. Not on their own efforts. But to be holy and lean into that holiness because HE was holy and they were HIS people (Exodus 19:6; Leviticus 19:2, 20:26; 1 Thessalonians 4:7).
We’re not left on our own. Even the Law was clear on this. If we do what He says and obey His commandments and statutes, we will be counted holy. Because His ways are holy and if we live by them, we will end up becoming holy by virtue of doing holy things – IF we do them with our full and whole selves. It does no good to think or believe good things, but never have your words and actions reflecting that. It does no good to do and say good things, but not have your inner self reflect that. The issue is that we cannot BE perfectly holy in word, thought, and deed. We will always fall short in some way (Romans 3:23-27). This is why we need a saviour. This is why we need Ruach HaKodesh. This is why we need the connection through Jesus where we get our spiritual lifeblood (John 15:5). This is why we need the Fruit of Ruach HaKodesh that gives us the toolbox we need to operate in harmony with Adonai’s will (Galatians 5:22-23).
If we will let Adonai challenge our thinking, teaching us the Father’s point of view (Romans 12:2), we have a chance to alter our behaviour. If we will be willing to apply everything that Elohim tells us through Ruach HaKodesh, leaning on Him for our strength and for guidance, we will be moulded into holy people based on our willingness to rely on and trust in Jesus in all things and in all ways. He IS holy and He wants US to be holy as well. He doesn’t want to leave us as we are or as we were. He wants us to become better people. He wants us to be like Him. That’s why Jesus came in the first place (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Mark 10:18
“So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” If Jesus is a man and a teacher, but nothing else, then Jesus has no right to be called good. But if Jesus is Elohim, then Jesus SHOULD be called good. Elohim is the ONLY source of good things and the ONLY one who is inherently good – everyone else can act good or do good things, but are not in and of themselves good. Because to BE good you need to be completely without sin. Only Adonai Elohim is without sin. He IS Righteousness. This verse was a chance for the rich young ruler to acknowledge Jesus as Elohim and put his faith completely in Jesus. He did not. But we can learn from his poor choice. We can acknowledge the innate goodness of Jesus, the goodness of Jesus as Elohim. And we can thank Him that He IS good. He is a GOOD God.
Your Daily Confession of Elohim’s Goodness:
I taste and see that Yahweh is good; I am blessed because I take refuge in Him.
Psalm 34:8
