For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.”’
Acts 28:27 (emphasis added)
Jesus quoted this same verse from Isaiah 6:10. He used it in the same way Paul does here. As an accomplished thing. A condition that exists. A deal that is in fact… done. This is NOT the side of this verse that you want to be. It is better to be on the side of the verse that is in Isaiah. Looking toward something that WILL happen UNLESS you repent and change your behaviour.
Why is it that people are still seeking healing? Why is it that the church is NOT the centre for healing and health in this world? Why aren’t people coming by the church for healing ALL THE TIME? It’s because the church got on the wrong side of this verse. They decided over time that healing was done. That the Holy Spirit is only a figurehead. A symbol of who we are going to be in heaven. That only part of the gifts are available and the rest are behind a paywall we cannot achieve in this life. People chose this. Yahweh granted them their request. They hardened their hearts, so He removed His conviction. He didn’t toss it away, He stopped using it toward them. This is NOT good.
The Holy Spirit is here to convict us of things we do that show we do not trust in Jesus. To show us where we are picking up FEAR instead of walking in FAITH. It is a POSITIVE correction tool, not one designed to condemn us (John 3:17). The problem for us is that we have free will and He lets us wield it. That means that if we decide for sure and for true that something is NOT for us, then eventually He will leave us alone and stop telling us that we can have it. It’s like when you offer something to your kids again and again and again and they keep refusing it – even when you KNOW they’ll like it. Yahweh is our Father and will do the same. Not force us to have anything we don’t want.
Which is why Holy Spirit is there to correct and teach and guide and turn our eyes toward the WORD. The WORD works inside us until we WANT what Adonai wants. Until we think about a given thing what HE thinks about that thing. Look at salvation. Before salvation we didn’t think we needed Him. We were doing fine. Might have been a dumpster fire, but we were a FINE dumpster fire. Then we heard the Word. Heard about Him. And suddenly we weren’t fine. We weren’t fine at ALL. We saw things from HIS point of view, not OURS. And we accepted His gift of salvation. We accepted His redemption. Our sins were atoned for and we submitted to that atonement.
But there are those who reject what the Word says. They reject what they hear. They reject who He says they can be. If they keep rejecting Him, they will be lost and not saved. We think of Hell as somewhere people are shoved. Forced. Dragged. The reality is that everyone who ends up in actual hell chooses to be there. If Jesus went down and opened the gates and said they could leave if only they would submit to Him and accept salvation, they would curse Him and pull the door shut again. They won’t be in Hell because they MISSED hearing the message. They will be in Hell because they CHOSE to REJECT the message they heard. That is why the world hasn’t ended. Not everyone has HEARD yet. Once they do, it’s all over.
Healing is part of the redemption package. It is of the curse. It grows from it. Once redeemed we are redeemed from the curse. It’s been washed in Jesus’ blood, but we have to wipe it off our heart. Like mould that has been treated, now it needs to be wiped away. It’s on OUR side of the glass. It is in OUR thinking and on OUR hearts. If we wipe off what JESUS killed, dealt with, and eliminated its ability to grow, we will have the healing that we want blossoming in our lives. Healing was accomplished for EVERY thing and EVERY one on the earth for ALL time. It is as done as done can be and He literally doesn’t need to lift even a single FINGER to heal us. He ALREADY DID IT.
If I bake a cake and leave it on the table, it will be gone by morning because my children will have come, taken, and eaten it. All that will be left will be crumbs. In the SAME WAY we need to come, take, and eat at Jesus’ table. We need to take what He has left out and consume it. We need to take our healing. Take our needs met. Take our abundant life. Take our prosperity regardless of situation. We must take the Fruit of the Spirit. Take what He is offering and get it on our insides by conscious choice. By INTENT. These are the instructions that we have been given again and again and again in the Word.
And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). ALL grace. At ALL times. In EVERY good work. That is every arena. Physical, mental, spiritual. Not the bare minimum. Not the hardly enough. OVERFLOW. Adonai is holding out to us GOOD THINGS (James 1:17). We have been empowered to take them from Him (1 Timothy 4:4-5). Regardless of what anyone else says. No matter how THEY see it. Trust the WORD and go with Adonai on EVERYTHING.
Do NOT harden your heart. Do NOT reject His teaching, His correcting, OR His Blessing. Humbly submit to Him in ALL THINGS – including receiving – and He WILL make your paths straight and your heart pliable and soft (Proverbs 3:6; Jeremiah 23:29).
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Deuteronomy 18:15
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you—from your fellow Israelites; you must listen to him.” Messiah would be a prophet like Moses. Moses was a deliverer (Ex. 3:7–10), covenant mediator (Ex. 34:27), priest (Ps. 99:6), and ruler (Ex. 2:13–14; Acts 7:27). What about Jesus? “Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus performed, they began to say to one another, “This is certainly the Prophet who is to come into the world.” (John 6:14). Jesus was our deliverer (John 5:1-9), covenant mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), priest (Hebrews 4:14-16), and ruler (Revelation 1:4-5). It is a TRUTH that Jesus is a prophet like Moses. Jesus IS Messiah.
