the one who believes in me. Just as the scripture said, ‘Out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.’” Now he said this concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)
John 7:38-39
Yesterday a dove, today an artisanal well springing forth ever-fresh water and never running out. But that’s not all! Our God is not limited by things in nature – one of the reasons He forbids images of Him (Exodus 20:4-6). Ruach HaKodesh is also flowing, roaring FIRE (Acts 2:3). He is also a WIND – both gentle and not – (John 3:8; Acts 2:1-2; Jeremiah 10:13; Isaiah 17:13). He is also OIL (Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38; 2 Corinthians 1:21; 1 John 2:2-7). There is no end to what we can compare Him to, but these were chosen for good reason.
Wind can affect temperature (especially how we ourselves perceive it). It can affect weather patterns, climate, and the environment. It has destroyed property, it keeps the oceans regulated, it can pick up houses and flatten forests. It can seep through small cracks. It can relieve negative symptoms. It can be roaring and mighty, rattling windows and whistling through chimneys. It can also be the gentle breath of a baby or the comforting exhales of a lover. It flows, it ebbs, and it is virtually everywhere that isn’t taken up by a solid object – yet is never seen. It can be as still as the grave and as rapid as children heading to recess. There is no end to its permutations. That is very much like Ruach HaKodesh. Everywhere but also right there and always moving.
Fire can being relief and destruction. It can consume and it can create. It in itself is harmful if we get too close, but radiates that which we need to survive – much like God’s holiness. It will destroy a forest, but in burning down the old will being about what is needed for new life to spring up. Ruach HaKodesh is our corrector but also He that helps grow new things in us. Provides life, but is Holy and without Jesus we would never survive close contact. Our prayers are lifted on His wings like fragrant smoke, pleasing to the Father.
He saturates like oil. A thick covering that changes us. Oil is lipophilic, penetrating deep into skin, which traps moisture and the good things carried in the oil and on our skin. It gets in and stays in. Nourishing us, it often reduces the damage we’ve done to our skin and certainly alters the appearance of our skin. Ruach HaKodesh gets into us, soaks us with the Father’s anointing and it changes who we are. Who we appear as. It helps to keep the good things locked in and reminds us of who we are in Jesus: nourished and transformed more and more each day.
Ruach HaKodesh is all those things and more. He really is beyond description. Beyond our mere human perception. But Jesus gives us HIS mind and HIS perceptions, letting us focus on the unseen. Helping us understand the spiritual world around us. Helping us gain the full benefit the Father intended when He released Ruach HaKodesh to come into the world and into us. These word pictures throughout scripture help us understand the role He plays, the helps He gives, and the protection He projects all over us. Ruach HaKodesh is one of the two best gifts humanity has EVER been given.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Romans 5:8
“but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Right from the beginning it was not our merit that Yahweh was concerned with, but how He saw us. The relationship that He wanted to have with us. And the extraordinary lengths He went to ensure that we could have one. He did all that because He loved us. Each and every one, seeing us and the fullness of our lives before He ever breathed a word of creation. Even as we were enemies of Him, hating light as we groped in darkness, He died for us. Before we could do anything, prove anything, earn anything, or reject anything. Yahweh loves us SO MUCH and His actions prove it again and again and again. He is a GOOD God.
Your Daily Confession of Elohim’s Goodness:
I taste and see that Yahweh is good; I am blessed because I take refuge in Him.
