Fear No Fear

The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, eczema, and scabies, all of which cannot be healed

The Lord will afflict you in your knees and on your legs with painful, incurable boils—from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.

The first thing to understand and get into our heart is that we are NOT under the Law. We are not subject to penalties in the same way that they are under the Old Covenant. But even under that covenant, you will not find a single instance that Yahweh brought a curse or punishment on someone as a positive thing. It was always a negative. It WAS punishment. It was incurred because of their repeated disobedience, their flouting of the rules, and their rebellion in their hearts. It is NEVER because He wants to teach them or build them up. He taught them in their punishments, but He did not bring them punishment to teach them.

The second thing to realise is that every bad thing was from the curse. It was a result of the Israelites moving out from the protective umbrella of Adonai’s favour and off into the land of the curse. When we are humbly submitted in obedience to Adonai, things work out. When we rebel and go our own way, we get wet. Simple as that. Leave the yard and become lion food. “Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

That can sound scary. A lion roaring and roaming around. Looking for someone to attack. To rend and tear and slaughter. But the Word tells us that though the lion may roar and rumble, he is a TOOTHLESS lion. “So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Doesn’t sound that scary, does it? We stand perfectly still and he runs away as fast as he can. Of course it matters WHAT we are standing on and HOW we are standing. We stand on the WORD – a secure place. We are standing clothed in the Armour of God – not our flip-flops. We are not standing defenceless. We are standing equipped by Adonai for a rumble in the jungle.

“For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments do not weigh us down, because everyone who has been fathered by God conquers the world” (1 John 5:3-4). “and in all of this, by taking up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16). We have been fathered by Yahweh Himself. We are children of FAITH. That FAITH overcomes the world. Why? Because that FAITH is HIS faith! We live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4). We have the shield of faith to defend ourselves. It is our default position. We can use it to KILL doubt. To KILL unbelief. To walk in the victory of JESUS which was embodied by TOTAL SUBMISSION to the Father.

Jesus as a man could do NOTHING more than WE can. Then He was baptised in the Holy Spirit and it indwelt Him in a way that it never had before. Jesus was once again complete with the Holy Spirit and the Father. That means it was POSSIBLE for Jesus to say whatever He wanted and do whatever He wanted. To translate from place to place instead of walking. To heal everyone He came across. To step down off the cross and do whatever He wanted to whoever was there. But He DIDN’T. He submitted and did ONLY what the Father wanted. Jesus lived out the Kingdom of Heaven here on Earth. That is something special. That was what Adam was supposed to do. That is what each and every one of us are supposed to do. He gives us the tools to do it.

When we do not, we leave the yard of Adonai and head off into the tall grass. THAT is where we get sick. THAT is where we get oppressed. THAT is where anxiety is. THAT is where depression is. THAT is where disease is. THAT is where sickness is. THAT is where all those ‘facts’ of the world are. We do NOT have a flu season. We do NOT have to have colds. We do NOT need to have tumours. We do NOT need to have bad eyesight. We do NOT need to be crippled. We do NOT need to have high or low blood pressure. We have the LEGAL RIGHT to be healthy, whole, and happy. Aging, not deteriorating. Getting older, not feeble. Not breaking down, but being a witness that we are getting stronger!

We have been trained to accept sickness. We have been trained that there is a way these things go. We listen to the doctors and the specialists and the scientists. But we listen to them as if they were the ONLY position there was on the issues. As if they had the ONLY opinions. As if Yahweh might have something DIFFERENT to say. Because of our assumptions, we have trouble thinking outside the box. Outside of the facts we believe we have discovered. Facts are malleable. Science is only the OBSERVATIONS we have made and do make about what our senses tell us. It is a POOR way to run your life. Not because science doesn’t have value, but because we don’t seem to remind ourselves of the limitations of science.

Don’t get convinced that your experience and the experiences of those around you are the end-all, be-all of the human experience. It is disobedience. It is rebellion. It is our stubborn stubbornness that causes our problems. In JESUS we have TOTAL victory. Jesus was NEVER sick. NEVER ill. NEVER defeated. Yet He got tired. He got hungry. He was still human. But He came out on top EVERY time and lacked for NOTHING. This is the position that we should be walking in. This is the default state of the believer. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Not just with your body but with your whole LIFE.

If you are given two options of where to stay for a weekend getaway, would you choose the one with marble bathrooms, gilded carpets, room service, soaker tubs, complimentary breakfasts, and Egyptian cotton sheets? or would you choose the one with cockroaches, shared toilets, showers with mouldy tiles, threadbare sheets, and shag carpets cleaned who knows when? Isn’t it a no-brainer? Who would want the Motel 1/4 in preference to the Ritz-Carlton? Only a very blind person. Yet this is the choice that many of us are making DAILY.

Don’t deny the Word. It says truer and more honest things about your situation than your senses, your friends, your personal professionals (doctors and dentists), your training, your intelligence, and your teachers. The Word is truth in a universal, supernatural way that CANNOT be denied – without repercussions. Deny the Word and you will be walking your OWN way, not HIS path. “Your word is a lamp to walk by and a light to illumine my path” (Psalm 119:105). Do NOT pick to walk in the wilds of sickness and disease. Walk in humble obedience to the Word, to the Lord God Almighty. Walk in HIS blessing. There is NO SICKNESS THERE. The WILL of the FATHER is HEALTH, WHOLENESS, and HEALING. Always.

Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Deuteronomy 21:23

“his body must not remain all night on the tree; instead you must make certain you bury him that same day, for the one who is left exposed on a tree is cursed by God. You must not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.” Messiah must be a deliverer. Delivering us from the curse. The only way to do that is to become the thing that we are – though Messiah doesn’t deserve it – in order to pay the penalty for us. “For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.” Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law because the righteous one will live by faith. But the law is not based on faith, but the one who does the works of the law will live by them. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)” (Galatians 3:10-13). Messiah had to be cursed to bring redemption. Jesus was cursed as He hung on the cross, that tree upon which He was nailed by the religious leaders of His day. One man dying for us all to live. Jesus IS the Messiah.
