Daily Affirmation #52

O Lord, in the morning You will hear my voice; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will watch expectantly” (Psalm 5:3). As a family, we read through the bible every year. A couple of chapters a day. Every child who can read has access to or owns a bible, and we read. First thing in the morning. The order of events is this. You wake up, take a shower, and then Word. Or you wake up and Word before your shower. Breakfast is once everyone is clean. There’s a big whiteboard on the door with the day’s chapters. You see it as soon as you enter the living room. No problem, right? Yet for 782 days, I ask kids ‘have you read the Word’ and I get ‘oh. I forgot’ from half of them. Different half every day, but it happens. What is it about this that prevents it from becoming a habit? A joyful pleasure, even? The flesh. The flesh does NOT want the Word no matter what age you are. You have to apply it. Firmly. With purpose. Yes, with smiles. Yes, eager to see Jesus throughout. Yes, interested in the newness of it every time. But you need to DO it. Not waiting for yourself to want it. To read. With intent. By choice. Every day. It makes a difference. It changes our lives. It alters our thinking (in a good way). And it brings us closer to Him as we see His heart and choose to align with His thinking. Which is exactly why the flesh hates it and it is worth doing EVERY morning. Don’t forget. No ‘ohs’, okay?
