Ruach HaKodesh “Teacher”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

And as for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you do not have need that anyone teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you reside in him.

1 John 2:27

We’ve looked at how the anointing of Ruach HaKodesh and Ruach HaKodesh Himself teaches us. He teaches us Truth. He cannot lie. His teaching stays inside us and doesn’t fly out our ears as soon as we have heard it. We don’t even have the ‘need’ to be taught by humans if we would just listen to Him. We also know that we strengthen and grow our trust in Adonai by HEARING the Word of Elohim and teaching about the Gospel of Jesus. So we do get taught by anointed human beings, but we ALSO have daily, personal, and revelatory commentary from the Word about the Word by the one who wrote the Word. Ruach HaKodesh is a teacher.

Why teach us at all? Why not have us do what the religious mind does? Coast along until we get to heaven? “But I say, live by the Spirit, and you will never carry out the desire of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Think of the problems we will avoid. Think of the repentance we won’t have to do, because we didn’t stray? Think of the love and relationship we can develop with the Father, the Son, and Ruach HaKodesh because we’ll be worshipping in truth and spirit AND living BY the spirit (Galatians 5:25; John 4:23-24). The Christian life is a life of love and trust in Jesus which creates fruit (words, thinking, and deeds) that the world sees as a witness. They just come out of us. Spontaneously and consistently. We can’t help it. Being like Jesus is just who we ARE (2 Corinthians 5:22). It is the end result of a life lived by the Word – something every believer is called to.

How are we supposed to follow Adonai’s commandments if we don’t KNOW Adonai’s commandments? The curse of the Law is done away with, all punishment having been taking into Jesus by Jesus on the cross (1 Peter 2:24; Galatians 3:13). But the heart of the Word is still obedience to His commands. What are they? “And he said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”” (Matthew 22:37-40). There are 613 commandments in the Old Covenant. We don’t make sacrifices because Jesus is our sacrifice. The sacrifice though was a physical representation of the repentance and need for cleanliness in the heart, right? We go to Jesus with repentance and to be cleansed. He is the sacrifice part. We still do the humble submission to the Father’s Will part. If we are loving Adonai and loving our neighbours – every single human being that isn’t us – we will NATURALLY do the things that fall under the other commands. We won’t murder or kill. We won’t lie or slander. Etc etc. We are Gentiles grafted into the family of Adonai. We don’t have the same clothing or shaving restrictions, but what was the REASON for them? We certainly aren’t going to wear whatever the world has to offer. But if we wear a cotton blend we’re not to make Him mad at us. There is SO MUCH wisdom and wonder in the commandments of Adonai. Commandments of love and affection and protection for us. How will we be able to see what isn’t applicable in the exact wording, but is still a principle we should be living our lives by without a teacher to teach us?

How can we honour the family we’ve been brought into if we don’t know their customs and the reasons behind them? There is a blessing from Adonai for following His commandments. Why are we so afraid of knowing them, doing them, and being separated out from the world? It’s not about physical circumcision, but spiritual (although there are benefits to the physical). We’re not bound to days and festivals, but we should be resting in the Sabbath of Jesus that He provides – but how are we going to remember to do that without a dedicated day to unplug from the world, rest our physical bodies, and focus our time and attention on Him (and yes, there’s a benefit to doing it His way)? It isn’t about rules and formula. Being bound to some ritual or restrictive rules. “For it seemed best to the Holy Spirit and to us to place on you no greater burden except these necessary things: that you abstain from food sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these things you will do well” (Acts 15:28-29).

Can Ruach HaKodesh teach us these things? Yes, He can. Should He? Yes, and He does. Should we listen? Yes, and yes, and yes again. Read the Word, listen to His voice, obey what He teaches you, and listen to teachers of the Word preaching the Gospel of Jesus. Test everything and hang onto what is good. We have the greatest teacher EVER. Are we utilising His tutoring?

Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength. They shall go up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not be faint.” How would you like to rest because you’d like to rest, and not because you were tired or weary? How’d you like to go for as long as you need to go because you need to? No fuss. No muss. No issues. No problems. Doesn’t that sound nice? Doesn’t that sound like some of that abundant life we were promised (John 10:10)? I agree! If we wait on Adonai, if we rest in Jesus, and if we plug into the Word and flick the switch of intentful reading, study, and meditation on what we find, we will live this promise. We will enjoy these benefits. This is Kingdom Living and it is a great gift from our GOOD God!
