“Those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:10, MEV). Pretty simple statement. If you know God, you’ll trust Him. If you find yourself not trusting Him, you don’t really know Him. How can the psalmist make such a blanket statement? That’s simple too. Those who know God know the character of God. This isn’t knowing OF Him or ABOUT Him intellectually. It isn’t about how you were raised. It’s about experiential knowledge of His character based on His treatment of you. When you KNOW Him, you’re looking back at all the things He has done, all the ways in which He came through for you, all the mercy and grace and love that has been poured out upon you. When you KNOW Him, you KNOW that we will not forsake you. He does not leave you – no matter how it FEELS – and has never, EVER failed. That EVERY SINGLE TIME you sought Him, He was there. Instructing, guiding, correcting, and encouraging. Empowering you so you can accomplish what He sets before you. Even when WE miss it, He is faithful and true. If we find that we are hesitant to trust Him – period or in a given situation – it will be because we haven’t taken the time to learn who He is IN that situation (or period). When we know His character, it is very hard not to trust Him. His character speaks volumes and IS the soil in which trust grows – no fertilizer needed. Seek Him and find Him. He’s not hiding to be hidden. He’s hiding to give you the joy of finding Him (Isaiah 45:15; Matthew 7:7-8).
