They offer only superficial help for the hurt my dear people have suffered. They say, “Everything will be all right!” But everything is not all right.
Jeremiah 8:11 (emphasis added)
Humans are creative people. We do a lot of things. We make a lot of things that then themselves do a lot of things. We have come a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way from gathering berries, beating bison on the head, and attempting to catch pigs. For all our technological marvels and engineering advancements, the best we can do is superficial help. Sure, we can wipe out some things. Sure, we can replace limbs and organs. Sure, we can travel into space. Sure, we have perfected microwave dinners. But it is all superficial. There is much more going on underneath our human-ness.
We are spirit beings. That means we have levels of existence that have nothing to do with the bodies we find ourselves in and the circumstances in which we live. We have vast mental landscapes in which to move. We are bigger inside than out. A lot of our work as human beings is understanding all those undercurrents. Entire industries have sprung up to help us quantify, qualify, and provide quality to that side of us. Sometimes, it comes from a positive place. Sometimes, it comes because we’re trying to cover up a negative place. But whatever we do, it’s always a maybe.
Maybe this will work. If I go to therapy enough. If I learn to listen. If I learn what my pattern is and try and wrestle it into a new pattern. If I learn to keep from touching it in the first place, my habits and/or addictions won’t kick in and I can break the cycle. If I learn about how what I do is informed more from what was done to me than what I choose to do I might find a way. If I cope with my symptoms, triggers, and behavioural quirks I can find a way to slide through my days and nights. If I… If I… If I…
Maybe it will all go away if I can take a break. See what videos are viral. See if that collection of articles is still out there. See the trailers for what is coming. See if anyone I know is online. See if I can get in a few raids on that game. See if something will make me laugh. See if something will make me cry – but in a good way not in a ‘the world is crumbling and I am sinking in the abyss’ way. See if something can make me shiver and lock the doors and windows five times. See if I can lose enough minutes and hours that I get tired and pass out and find that I have survived another day. See if I… See if I… See if I…
Maybe if I get involved at work. Or school. Or church. Fill my days with job after job. Responsibility atop responsibility. Ignoring the giant looming deadlines by obsessing over small details on a totally unrelated project. Making sure that I have no time to think about it. Or talk about it. Or deal with it. Shoving it under the carpet because I have so much to do. Not answering the phone. Or doing the research. Or calling them like I’m supposed to. Because I’m busy. Because I have a lot to do. Because there is stuff for me. Because I’m needed. Because of the things. All the things…
Bandaids. Maybes. Maybe it will all go away. Maybe I’ll make it through. Maybe it will work out. Maybe someone will save me. Maybe my feelings will change. Maybe I will find a way to change. My hair, my clothes, my friends, my living space, my gender, my sexuality, my diet, my vehicle, my entertainment, my . Maybe if I. Maybe if they. Maybe. Superficial solutions. Just enough to change it so that I can smile and say, ‘Everything will be okay.’
But everything is NOT okay. All those soul-issues. All those spirit things that haven’t changed. They are still there. Our spirits are either dead because we haven’t accepted Jesus’ redemption. Or our spirits are alive in Him because we have. But those spirits only inform our soul what is what. Our soul (mind, heart) needs to decide to do something with the information. All the things we do. All our maybes. They are NOT enough. They are superficial. Skin deep.
Jesus is what we need. Not a concept of god. JESUS. He is THE way, THE truth, and THE life. Everything else is man-made and death. Jesus is the ONLY way to life. Abundant life. Life full of peace. Life full of victory. Life full of solutions. Not a removal of circumstances, persecution, or toil. A lifting of us ABOVE circumstances and persecution. A changing of toil to work. Peace wherever we find ourselves. Love no matter what we’re doing. Correction when we step wrong to get us back to where we should be walking. Hand in hand with Adonai. Not fighting to keep Him away. Not waiting for Him to do all the things. Hand in hand. Together. Watching Him do the impossible in and through us because we gave ourselves to Him and the process He wants to walk out with us.
Jesus never fails. Jesus washes us CLEAN. Jesus gently moves aside all our maybes. He takes off all the bandages. He smiles on us. He strokes our hair. He touches us and transforms our wounds. He takes them and leaves behind WHOLENESS. Because He is the LIVING ONE. And He wants us to be LIVING too. Not getting by. Not coping. Not addicts who are not indulging. Not the anxious who are making through the days. Not the anything that is negative. Clean. Whole. Changed. In HIM. Letting HIM. Not relying on US. Resting in HIM.
Don’t settle for the superficial. Don’t wait for a maybe. Don’t try it yourself. Let Him. Today. Tomorrow. For all the days. Jesus IS the answer. You’re the question. You were made for Him. He came for you. Don’t settle for less. In HIM everything WILL be all right. Better than all right. They will be COMPLETE. They will be WHOLE. They will be HIM. And HE overcomes EVERYTHING.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: 1 Chronicles 17:11
“When the time comes for you to die, I will raise up your descendant, one of your own sons, to succeed you, and I will establish his kingdom.” Yahweh left nothing to chance. He told us again and again and again who was coming. Messiah. The descendant of kings. The Shepherd of His people. Established in a Kingdom of Spirit. The Throne of David eternally sat upon. Jesus is that seed. Jesus is that Son of David. Jesus is that king. Jesus IS Messiah.
