“whom, having not seen, you love; and in whom, though you do not see Him now, you believe and you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,” (1 Peter 1:8). This is a barometer for your heart. Are you trusting in Jesus? This is the question Holy Spirit is consistently asking us (John 16:8). Are we trusting in Jesus? It’s okay to acknowledge feelings that God isn’t listening or the problems and circumstances we face are scary. But feelings aren’t real. They’re ever-changing sensory input. When we trust in Jesus, we can emote from our spirit and not our feelings. Because of that, we can have joy and peace in our hearts even as our senses report a scary feeling, an abandonment feeling, or a lost feeling. The joy we have in our heart by trust in Jesus turns problems into situations where He gives us answers. It turns depression into joy. Anxiety into peace. Fear into calming love. We have NOT been given a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Instead, we’ve been given the opportunity to trust in Jesus and by that trusting and humble submission to walk in His Righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). We know we’re trusting in Jesus when we have JOY in our hearts – His by Grace, not ours by effort or feeling. Effortless praise! Effortless joy! All from trusting in Him. Check your barometer. See how solid your trust is. If it’s weak, get out the Word and give your trust an infusion of strength (Romans 10:17). Speak it out boldly, take in as it’s written, and believe He isn’t lying. Take time with Him and feel your trust grow!
