Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute. Jesus healed him so that he could speak and see.
Matthew 12:22 (emphasis added)
Jesus was not confusing. Sure, there were things He taught that could not be understood without the Holy Spirit residing inside us (John 14:25-26). The main goal was not confusion. It was clarity. Humanity had done enough to muddy the waters. Adding more and more commandments to the commandments that were in the Law. A little over six hundred commandments, more than three thousand rules. Yahweh commanded. Humanity made rules to help people more easily keep the commands. And not break them. Or appear to break them. Or to make sure that we definitely wouldn’t break the spirit of the thing that the commandment was talking about. It got REALLY complicated. Jesus came to make it easy.
Today’s verse is a great example of that. The man had a demon possessing him. It made him unable to see. Unable to speak. Jesus healed him. He drove OUT the demon spirit and the man was then able to see and speak. Jesus removed the cause and the symptoms disappeared. It was ALWAYS how He operated. He destroyed the root and the rest withered away (Mark 11:20-25). It is ALWAYS what Adonai does. He isn’t concerned about symptoms. Yes, He is empathetic with us. He UNDERSTANDS our preoccupation with symptoms. But He deals with roots. With causes. A lot of physical things have spiritual issues at their root. Not all. It’s easy to see a demon lurking behind every bush. We as humans have done a LOT to try and put strength, power, and ability into the image we have of a demon. Look at Anime and Hollywood. They’re full of it. It isn’t how demons are. It isn’t how we are to deal with them.
The root of any demonic power is permission. Somewhere along the line in some way they were granted permission. To do that thing. To inhabit that person. Their darkness was let in the door. It is the SAME principle Cain was warned about (Genesis 4:7). They are WITHOUT until the door is opened. Jesus is VICTORIOUS over the kingdom of darkness. His light makes them cower (Mark 5:7). Jesus can and does drive them out. His blood is the covenant that makes us clean. His authority is supreme and NONE can stand against it. “Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). Nothing can ignore it (Isaiah 45:23; Philippians 2:9-11).
It does not matter if we are dealing with healing, demonic oppression or possession, human agency, or natural circumstances. Jesus gets to the root. Jesus applies the Anointing (His Blood being the carrier oil). The root dies. Jesus restores what remains to where it should have been in the first place. Adonai is not into bandaids. Now, temporary things are useful until the root is gotten to. That was one of the points of the Old Covenant. Giving the people a way to access the spiritual sacrifice by faith in a physical sacrifice. Teaching them of the importance of the final and true sacrifice by giving them shadows and types. So they would know when and how to accept the New Covenant. The one that didn’t remove the types, but perfected them in the actual (Matthew 5:17).
One of the reasons Jesus came was to be able to speak to us. To tell us what we could be in Him. To lay before us our decision. To trust Him and believe, or to not trust and reject Him. That’s why Isaiah 53:5-6 and 1 Peter 2:24 both have spiritual aspects to them. They aren’t just about the physical healing Jesus accomplished. That’s the accomplishment we can see and touch. There was also a spiritual healing offered. We can’t see or touch that one. But by listening to His words and by seeing the physical side of it, we can choose to trust in Him and accept it. We can be healed at our ROOT. We can be restored from the ground up.
Our problem is that we are separate from Yahweh. Jesus solves the root of that by paying for our sin. After that, all our problems come from us not trusting Jesus in a given area or instance. Jesus solved that too. If we trust Him in everything we do and everything we say and in everything we think, we will be letting Him deal with everything that comes up as it comes up. Letting Him get to the root of everything and restoring it. Killing the bad – so that it is gone and done and NEVER an issue again (Romans 6:6-7). Washing us clean. Made new (Ephesians 4:22-24).
For ALL of your problems, Jesus IS the solution. At the root. Period. He IS the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Start letting Him be your root killer.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 2:8-9
“Ask me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your personal property. You will break them with an iron scepter; you will smash them like a potter’s jar.’”” Messiah will be a ruler. Messiah will hold us to the standards of Righteousness that Yahweh laid down (Revelation 2:27). Jesus IS that ruler. “So the woman gave birth to a son, a male child, who is going to rule over all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was suddenly caught up to God and to his throne,” (Revelation 12:5). Jesus WILL BE that ruler. “From his mouth extends a sharp sword so that with it he can strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod, and he stomps the winepress of the furious wrath of God, the All-Powerful” (Revelation 19:15). Jesus will rule us by the standards of the Father. Jesus IS Messiah!
