to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:10
This is in no way a definitive exposition on tongues. First, they are real. Second, they do not always sound like WE think. For example, when Pentecost occurred, those gathered and baptised with Ruach HaKodesh spoke in other tongues (Acts 2:1-12). People in the crowd recognised the languages. One of two possibilities exist. The Word is not clear which it is – regardless of translation. One: they were speaking languages that they did not know. Two: they were speaking a heavenly language and the people HEARD their native language. Both are possible. Why? Ruach HaKodesh IS language. He IS voice. And He is the one who enabled them to do it – no matter which way they did it.
The Father is the HEART of God, Jesus is the FACE of God, and Ruach HaKodesh is the VOICE of God. The Church then (Jew and Gentile believers in Jesus) is the HANDS of God. Father to Son to Ruach HaKodesh to human believers to the Church as a whole. This is the Kingdom Chain of command. Ruach HaKodesh has always been associated with (1) voice: “And the Spirit said to Philip, “Approach and join this chariot.”” (Acts 8:29); (2) language: “For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, because no one understands, but by the Spirit he speaks mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:2); (3) wind: “And suddenly a sound like a violent rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2); and (4) breath: “And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”” (John 20:22). All four of those things make up VOICE. Ruach HaKodesh is definitely a Voice.
What tongues is – regardless whether a heavenly or earthly type – is the voice of Ruach HaKodesh through our mouths. He chooses the language, not us. He and our spirit (sealed in and by Him – Ephesians 1:13) agree what is going to be said. WE choose to utilize that tongue, those words, or we don’t. Ruach HaKodesh doesn’t force us. He doesn’t take over and start yammering through us with us having no control. If you’re possessed, it’s a demon. Adonai, in ALL of His personages, is against taking from us free will. He is looking for cooperators, not slaves (2 Chronicles 16:9). We work WITH Him to speak His words in His language, and thereby encourage ourselves and build ourselves up (1 Corinthians 14:4).
If you are speaking in tongues, you can be sure that you ARE speaking the goodness of Adonai. “Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed,” and no one is able to say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3). Ruach HaKodesh is God and God does not speak against Himself. Rest assured that when His spirit and your spirit are speaking, good things are being said, Adonai is being glorified, and Jesus is being affirmed as Lord. But it is Ruach HaKodesh who decides on the TYPE of tongues being said, when they are needed – which includes groaning in the spirit (John 11:33,38). He gives the tongues.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Deuteronomy 17:18-19
“And then when he is sitting on the throne of his kingdom, then he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll before the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to revere Yahweh your God by diligently observing all the word of this law and these rules,” Keeping Adonai’s words before our hearts, things go well for us. If we don’t, then they don’t. The king was in a position of authority. He had a LOT of responsibility. If HE wasn’t taking Adonai seriously, the people were in real trouble. The best way to do this is to write it out, read it out loud, and read it with your eyes. More of a haptic approach to learning than just reading it for five minutes before bed – although that is better than nothing. Read the Word, hear the Word, hear and read teaching on the Word, and think of ways to have discussions on the Word with your near and dear. Having a leadership role in the world is no excuse. Having a leadership role in the family is no excuse. Being busy is no excuse. Being rich or poor is no excuse. If we are not getting the Word in us, we are cutting off our legs. We are brutalising our ability to function in this life. It is THAT bold. It is THAT clear. The WORD and only with the WORD are our minds, lives, and world transformed. Adonai gave it to us. Encourages us with it. And reminds us of all of it that we have gotten inside of ourselves. What a GOOD God!
