Daily Affirmation #73

The counsel of the Lord is with those who fear him, and He will make His covenant known to them” (Psalm 25:14, MEV). If we reverence Him, His counsel will be with us. Why would ANYONE want to do ANYTHING else? I mean, God Himself making His covenant known to us. To treat us as if we were on the inside track? What would be better than that? What could make us walk away from such a great deal? “With the coming of wickedness comes contempt also, and with dishonor, disgrace” (Proverbs 8:13, LEB). Wickedness. Our choice to indulge sin. We don’t HAVE to (Romans 6:14). We don’t HAVE a sinful nature anymore (Romans 6:6). We have Jesus’ own nature (2 Corinthians 5:21). When we put our mind to think on the sinful things in existence, we open ourselves to temptation, and when we do that, we set ourselves up to fall (James 1:14-15). What we need to do is the opposite. To treat Jesus as if we were married. To think on HIM and not on the possibilities that exist. To think on the GOOD nature of Jesus. Of God. To remember the love and respect we have for Him. As if we were in a marriage together. “Only you also, each one of you, must thus love his own wife as himself, and the wife must respect her husband” (Ephesians 5:33, LEB). Marriage is the example we are given to know how to pursue and continue to pursue God. We ALL know that when you stop pursuing your partner, you start to cool off. When the romance ceases (and it does NOT need to be extravagant, only honest and true), the smiles follow. And then contempt, which helps us to justify dishonour and disgrace. Instead, let’s remember our first love. Our best love. Love itself. Let’s hold HIM in our minds and reverence what we see in our heart.
