Daily Affirmation #76

“He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea and would have passed by them” (Mark 6:38). The ‘He’ is Jesus. The disciples had been told to go to the other side of the sea, but the storm was preventing them from gaining ground. They had a mandate to cross. They had already been given the authority of His name (Luke 10:19). They didn’t NEED Jesus to come save them. They could have done exactly what He did and take authority over that storm because (1) they had been commanded by God to cross and (2) they had the authority of Jesus’ name and (3) it was the clear will of God for them to use their dominion here on Earth to still the unnaturally fierce storm. Their eyes, though, were more on the storm and natural forces than God and His command. They got caught up in it and were lost. Jesus STILL wasn’t going to go to them. He was going to pass them by, give them a wave, and cross the lake like they told them to. Just because we take our eyes off God and get in trouble, it doesn’t mean we need Him to rescue us. We could smarten up and choose to focus on our orders. BUT the MOMENT they called, He answered. Even though He didn’t have to. What a GOOD God!
