He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
Mark 5:29 (emphasis added)
Yahweh There are a lot of ways to be fixed. There always seems to be a temporary element to it when it is sickness and disease. We’re clean and clear – I hope it doesn’t come back. We’re in remission – until next time. We’re well – but flu season is around the corner. It goes on and on. There is no lasting healing anywhere outside of Jesus, so there is fear attached to EVERY kind of healing, repair, or remission outside of Jesus too. In Him we can have peace, about the situation, sure. But also about STAYING clean, clear, and WHOLE.
Doctors are not in the business of curing, but the business of being relief. Relief from the symptoms more than the relief from the problem, but in the eyes of medicine ANY fix is a good fix. Why? Because they are stuck in the same fallen world we are. Mankind cannot create from nothing. They can’t regrow limbs. They can’t put back what they never took out. They can’t make necrotic flesh living. They CAN do some pretty great things. And for all their human errors, they have made a HUGE difference in a LOT of lives. Adonai has used them to help believers AND unbelievers and we should all thank Him for their influence.
But not everything they do is permanent. They take care of the symptoms of a cold and another could come. They eliminate the flu, but there is another season next year. They kill cancer cells, but more can grow back. They help balance out chemicals in your brain, but they have to keep revisiting it as your body gets used to the current levels. The medical industry at its best is about maintaining conditions in liveable ways. At its worst its about maximising profits. Most of the time it sits in the middle. Which is why there is so much uncertainty in the process. You never know when something is over or paused.
When Yahweh heals, things STAY healed. When Yahweh gets involved, there is a CURE not a patch. When Yahweh gets involved, we get to be overcomers, not overwhelmed. The question is not whether Yahweh WANTS to be involved, but whether WE will LET Him. Healing is as much for today as it ever was. Today it depends on FAITH as much as it always did. Look at it this way: Jesus was fully man (but a perfect one) and fully God (indwelt by Holy Spirit in total and complete fullness) and was unable to heal a single person unless faith (the manifestation of belief not mixed with doubt) was present (Mark 6:5).
If JESUS could not heal because of their unbelief, what was the issue? Jesus did the Will of the Father EVERY TIME. Was it because He was unable? Was it because the Father didn’t WANT to? No and no. He was able. The Father was willing. But the UNBELIEF was so strong Jesus MARVELLED at it. It takes a LOT to make Jesus marvel. It didn’t stop Jesus. He laid hands on a few chronically ill people. There is the implication in the Greek that they were comatose. If that’s true, it means that the only people He was able to heal were those who He dealt with spirit to spirit without their logical minds getting in the way.
Jesus kept making Himself available. Jesus kept shutting the demons up. Jesus kept healing all who came to Him believing for it. Every. One. And ALL THOSE who here believing for total health and put their faith behind that idea RECEIVED it. The woman in today’s verse was INSTANTLY healed and KNEW it. There was peace that the ordeal was OVER. It was FINISHED. She didn’t have to fear a recurrence. She didn’t have to wonder if all of the illness was ‘gotten’. She was healed. She was whole. And it was NOT coming back. Jesus HEALS.
This is Yahweh’s best. Every time. Instant. Complete. Whole. Healthy. You know how Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus (John 14:11)? Well, we see again and again Jesus meeting people where they were. From instant healing to being raised from the dead to blind walking, Jesus met them where they were. Two incidents REALLY illustrate this. First is the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19). Ten men who had leprosy came to Jesus. He told them to show themselves to the priest and ten went to do that. One came back. He was the ONLY one to come back. He was a Samaritan, not a Jew. He was also the ONLY one who COULDN’T be seen by the priests at the Temple because no Jew had dealings with Samaritans.
First, it shows that everyone who is ill is ill. They don’t play favourites in their suffering (otherwise the Samaritan would have been alone, not with nine Jews). Second, it shows the man had real faith. He was willing to go to somewhere he KNEW he would be rejected because Jesus told him to. He ACTED on his faith in Jesus. When he came back, Jesus said to him (vs 19) “Then he said to the man, “Get up and go your way. Your faith has made you well.”” The words ‘made you well’ can also be translated “has delivered you” or “has saved you. This man who came back to thank and worship Jesus got something the others didn’t. Peace. Wholeness. TOTAL deliverance. Jesus didn’t care that he was a Samaritan or a leper. Jesus met the man where he was and gave him what his belief was invested in.
The next incident was in Bethsaida, a hotbed of unbelief (Matthew 11:20-30). “Then they came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to Jesus and asked him to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and brought him outside of the village. Then he spit on his eyes, placed his hands on his eyes and asked, “Do you see anything?” his sight he said, “I see people, but they look like trees walking.” Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again. And he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Jesus sent him home, saying, “Do not even go into the village.”” (Mark 8:22-26). Jesus took the man OUT of the unbelief. Jesus took him right out of city limits. Once the man was healed, Jesus warned him not to go back. Unbelief hinders and can eat away at healing. Because you start to think ‘you’re right’ and your faith is placed in NOT being healed instead of standing on your healing.
Jesus took the man out of the town of unbelief, but there was still some issues in the man to deal with. Jesus didn’t pray for the healing twice. He prayed for healing once – believing He received as He prayed (Matthew 21:22) – and the man himself once. Jesus got the sickness out and then got the unbelief out. He dealt with the whole problem, not part of it. When He was done, the man was whole. AND warned so that he could CONTINUE to walk in wholeness and not get his newfound health stolen before he was used to it (Matthew 13:4, 19).
Sometimes we need to protect our healing. Sometimes we are so sure of it nothing can snatch our belief. Whatever we BELIEVE for is what we sow into. We’re giving the Father permission to move as HE wills or we’re restricting Him with our doubt and unbelief (Matthew 18:18-19). Jesus will meet us where we are and give us what we are putting our FAITH into. What are YOU faithing for? Bare minimum? Gradual turnaround? Or fully whole and healed right now? He’ll help us with our unbelief, but we’ve got to do our part. Plant that seed of God’s Will deep in our hearts. Get it in so deep it can’t HELP but sprout and thrive. You can feel the difference. You can FEEL His peace.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 22:2
“My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up.” Darkness was to come upon the day and make it as night. The darkness of the removal of Yahweh’s light (1 John 1:5-7). Because Yahweh was turning away from the sin Messiah would become. Yahweh doesn’t save the Messiah but rather remains silent in the face of the injustice, the suffering and the torture that He is forced to endure – ensuring that Messiah pays the full price for sin and therefore forging the ONLY path to redemption. “Now from noon until three, darkness came over all the land” (Matthew 27:45). When Jesus was crucified, there was such darkness. For THREE hours. When there SHOULD have been light. Jesus paid the price for us. Jesus IS the Messiah!
