“You are my hiding place; You will preserve me from trouble; You will surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah” (Psalm 32:7, MEV). Stop and think about that. Remember yesterday and the idea of being sure to heed the call of God and repent when He is showing you that repentance is needed (toward Him or toward another person)? That is the cause of today’s verse, which is the effect of repentance: a hiding place. When we are right with God, we have a relationship with Him. We’re choosing to engage our right to enter into Him. We can’t do that without being right with Him. God is RIGHTEOUS and the ONLY way to Him is in and through Jesus (John 14:6). But when we are in Jesus, seeking His face, responding to His correction, and maintaining a right relationship with Him? Oh, the reward! A safe haven. Protection from enemies (foreign, domestic, or spiritual). Great and DEEP comfort. Deliverance from all that WE can’t escape from on our own. It’s being asleep in the boat, not out in the storm (Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25). It’s being ABOVE the fray, not IN the fray. Repentance should never be avoided. Yes, it can be uncomfortable. But on the other side is green grass and cool waters (Psalm 23). And that is worth ANY amount of discomfort.
