Ruach HaKodesh “Wards”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

And likewise also, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as one ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unexpressed groanings.

Romans 8:26

Job was desperate for an interceder. Someone who could handle the full-on righteousness of Adonai. Someone who could talk face to face with the Father on his behalf. Job lived before even the Old Covenant, so he was at the total mercy of the ruler of this world (1 John 5:19). He didn’t even have the Law to cover his sins (although Adonai said repeatedly that Job was blameless – Job 1:1 – so his personal sins were NEVER an element of ANYTHING he went through). We have that mediator, however. We have Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5). But what if what we need is something we don’t know how to say? That we don’t know what the problem is, or how to verbalise it, or anything? That’s when the Deep Comfort of Ruach HaKodesh comes into play. He intercedes on our behalf. We’re not wards of the State, we are wards of the Spirit.

To be a ward is to be a person, especially a child, who is legally put under the protection of a law court or a guardian. We are ALL Elohim’s children. “See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is. And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as that one is pure” (1 John 3:1-3). As such, we are under the tutelage and protection of the Kingdom of Heaven. The officer of the court in whose charge we have been put, is Ruach HaKodesh. He is the banner that covers us. He is the one we can ask questions of. Our information officer, as it were.

But there are times that we don’t have ANY idea what’s going on. We can’t see a way out, or even what the problem is. We are consumed by our lack of knowledge. Our desperation starts showing. We flounder in a way that is different than simply not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We flounder because we don’t even know if we’re in a tunnel in the first place. THAT is when Ruach HaKodesh steps in. He has the authority to intervene for us. To intercede on our behalf because HE knows what’s going on. In words too deep to understand, He speaks for us. He groans for us. He moves for us. He gets the correct call out so the right help arrives at the right time in the right way to the right people so that success can occur. When we have checked out in confusion, He checks in with certainty.

At the same time, He encourages us to get more Word into us. To get more of Jesus’ Light shining inside us. To get more understanding of Jesus’ love. To renew our minds with the Word and engage what we learn as we do. He intercedes even as He assists with the strengthening of our ‘muscles’. The development of the Trust we’ve been given. The strengthening of our trust in Jesus. The engaging of the tools Yahweh has given us to engage so that we can live this walk in Jesus, through Jesus, by Jesus, and for Jesus. Becoming the victory in Him because HE is in US. It is impossible to do it without Him (John 15:5). But WITH Him? Everything is possible when we cooperate with Him (Matthew 19:26).

Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Psalm 121:2

My help is from Yahweh, maker of heaven and earth.” I once needed help with a piece of electronic equipment. It was not working as it was supposed to and I was completely flummoxed. How I got over that hurdle was to read the manual that was written by the person who made the product. They knew the ins and outs. They’d seen it misbehave and not work in more ways than I could imagine. By reading what they said the equipment could do, and doing what they said to do in the way they said to do it, created an environment where the equipment began to function as it was designed to. We are in the same situation. Except WE are the equipment. When we read the Word, we are reading the manual written by the One who MADE US. If we aren’t working the way we are supposed to, we need to check the manual, alter our mode of thinking and way of doing things, and renew ourselves to His way, His thinking, and His words. When we do, we start to function as we were designed to function (John 10:10). We start to walk in HIS way, on HIS path, illuminated by HIS Word, and corrected when we start to step awry by HIS Spirit. What a GOOD God!

I taste and see that Yahweh is good; I am blessed because I take refuge in Him.
