and those who suffered from unclean spirits were cured.
Luke 6:18 (emphasis added)

There is a lot of OOMPH and WHOA in the entertainment industry when it comes to demons. They’re all over the place. They are muscular and powerful. They’re sensuous and beautiful. They make deals and fight wars and exude power and deadliness. They’re always a force to be reckoned with. They’re romanticised. They’re agents of horror. They are agents of chaos, evil, and sometimes love. They are usually bad guys but sometimes are anti-heroes. The truth is quite different. I have never understood why any christian would want to watch anything that glorifies them. I guess the reason is that in the back of our minds, they are players of power and there is always a fascination lurking for those things we fear. But the Word pegs demons right where they are. They are a sickness. Spiritual germs.

Not everyone might like this attitude because it’s so ‘cool’ to see the movies where they fight and threaten and the hero battles for all they’re worth, finally defeating them with their weapons, spells, or chants. Reality is simpler. Seven words used in the right circumstances will eliminate ALL demons. ‘In the name of Jesus, go away.’ You don’t have to shout it, fling it, or be standing either behind a cross or in a circle. We have the authority of Jesus. Jesus never did anything fancy. He told them what to do, they had no choice but to do it. That is authority. They couldn’t do ANYTHING less. They couldn’t do ANYTHING else. They were compelled to do EXACTLY what Jesus said. Period. That is authority. Jesus’ authority. And WE as the Body of Christ have it.

How do we GET His authority? We already have it. “Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). “You are from God, little children, and have conquered them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Jesus is THE highest authority and HE is in US. That means we have use of His authority in TWO ways. First, the same way He used it Himself. Second, as long as we are in Him and He is in us. Both of them are achieved in the same way: loving and humble submission to the Father. “For though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards, for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down arguments and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

We need to stay in Jesus. That is our safe place (John 16:33). That is our solid place (1 Corinthians 10:4). That is our ONLY place (John 14:6; 1 John 5:20). ““I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you. In a little while the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too. You will know at that time that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you. The person who has my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him”” (John 14:18-21). THAT is our place of authority. Us in Jesus who is in the Father who is in Jesus who is in us. Alignment. In love. Which is obedience, as the Word clearly shows us. If we LOVE we OBEY. Not forced obedience. Obedience in LOVE. Because we WANT to. Because we can’t stand the idea of doing anything OUTSIDE of obedience because ANYTHING outside obedience is outside trust.

Trust is our reliance on the NATURE of Adonai. It is not blind reliance on rules OR promises. It is TRUST. Trust from our side of things is our assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of Adonai. Trust from His side of things is the authority of Messiah Jesus committed or entrusted to us to be used or cared for in the interest of the Father. That’s it. A two-way street slanted ENTIRELY His way that we are allowed to walk on by GRACE.

How do we get this authority going? We only do what the Father shows us to do and only say what the Father tells us to say – just like Jesus did. We keep the Word before our eyes all day long. We praise the Father all day long. We keep our focus on Him, regardless of what we are doing. We’re checking in will Him ALL THE TIME. We make sure that we are using those things that He equips us to use. The Armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23). We do everything the Word says we can do. BUT we ONLY do it when and if the Father TELLS us to.

Jesus SPOKE to demons and they fled. Jesus SPOKE to sickness and it fled. When the Father asks us to, WE can do the same and the same result will happen. Don’t believe me? “So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). If the devil will flee, the demons will too. Look at the order of it: SUBMIT to the Father. THEN resist the devil. With what do we resist? With the WORD. Just like Jesus did. Jesus didn’t use weapons of this world. Jesus didn’t use incantations. Jesus didn’t use grimoires or circles or mystical things or yoga or wands. Jesus used the WORD and the WORD alone. The devil fled (Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13).

If we will submit like Jesus, then we can walk in His steps, wield His authority, and do exactly what He did – and more. But it is the Father’s will that comes first and foremost. That is the ONLY way it can be. The Father is the originator of ALL things. It is not US, but Him. “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). This needs to be our cry. When it is, we too can heal people of the demons that are attached to them. Like ANY sickness, they will be brushed off and swept up.

The demonic cannot stop us. Because it is not US, but Jesus IN US. He MUST be obeyed. So submit to the Father and let Him do the works that He prepared for us to walk in before ANYTHING was made (Ephesians 2:10). Demons and unclean spirits are NOT behind everything. They take advantage of situations because they are weak little nothings who need to borrow authority from humans to get anything done. They cannot stand against Jesus. He is the answer to EVERY sickness – physical OR spiritual.

Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 22:14

My strength drains away like water; all my bones are dislocated. My heart is like wax; it melts away inside me.” Messiah was destined to be hurt. Bad. Blood to pour from Him. Melting out like wax. It happened to Jesus. Water and blood poured out signifying both His death and the church’s birth. “But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water flowed out immediately” (John 19:34). What Jesus did for us cannot be denied. He fulfilled all these scriptures, proving His place and worthiness to be our sacrifice again and again. Jesus IS the Messiah!
