“My soul will make its boast in the Lord; the humble will hear of it and be glad” (Psalm 34:2, MEV). The humble person realises that without God, we’re not all that functional. We can build a shadow of things, but we fail to produce real things. Humanity’s best efforts are a pale imitation of what we COULD do. It isn’t besmirching our accomplishments, it’s putting them in their place. And it doesn’t matter what arena they are in. The brightest human knowledge always acknowledges the Lord’s superior position. This is in no way disheartening. Instead, it sparks Joy and Rejoicing. This superior God is not only on our side, but has adopted us into His family. He dwells with us. He is intimately involved with every aspect of our lives. We can’t manage this life on our own (Romans 7:18). But He has come to be with us and in Him we get truly abundant life (John 10:10). If you grasp hold of that truth, you’ll never have a reason to not be in Joy (not happiness, a feeling, but joy, a choice to emote). It defeats all those dark clouds and rays of sonshine always shine through.
