And Yahweh passed over before him, and he proclaimed, “Yahweh, Yahweh, God, who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding with loyal love and faithfulness, keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations.”
Exodus 34:6-7
Psalm 22:1 (also quoted by Jesus on the cross) it reads “My God, my God why have you forsaken me? Why are you far from helping me, far from the words of my groaning?” This is a reverse command. We KNOW that Adonai NEVER CHANGES (James 1:17). Once Jesus died for sin to be expunged from humanity, sin was dealt with. Past sin, present sin, and ALL future sin. It was ALL dealt with. This is the first Mercy of Adonai’s character. In fact, we don’t need to ask forgiveness for sin per se. The sin has ALREADY been forgiven and dealt with. We DO however need to REPENT of the sin we do. We use the word ‘forgive’ because we understand what it means. Problem means it also can just mean ‘sorry’. For us to get right with Adonai, we don’t need sorries. We need repentance.
Ruach HaKodesh encourages us in repentance. He corrects us. Not makes us do the right thing, but speaks to us about the right thing. We can hear Him, test it in the Word (1 Thessalonians 5:21), and choose to think THAT instead of the thinking that led to the sin (James 1:14-15). That is half of repentance. That’s the part we call forgiveness. The other half is the VITAL half. We have to repent of our failure to trust in Jesus. His mercy MUST be ignored for the sinner who is called to repentance to continue sinning. If we WON’T trust, then we CAN ignore. If we INSIST on trusting we CANNOT ignore. While here on Earth, Jesus CONSTANTLY trusted in the Father. He looked to the Father for sustenance, words, actions, and chose to align His thoughts with scripture. He trusted perfectly. We’re called to seek Him so that we can trust like Him (Mark 11:22). We have it in our spirit. We only need to get it our in our soul.
“But the loyal love of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to their children’s children,” (Psalm 103:17). Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, the Mercy of Adonai is ever-present. If we will repent, His mercy will respond. The Mercy of Adonai NEVER changes. It is ALWAYS available to the truly repentant. “The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). That’s a ministry of Ruach HaKodesh, because it is part of the nature of Adonai. He watches over us. He is with us. He is with us so that we will not strike our feet and fall (Psalm 103:13). He can approach Him whenever we want (Hebrews 4:16). Right from the moment we think of a sinful thing (according to Adonai’s perspective, not ours) is the moment we should be talking to Ruach HaKodesh about it. It doesn’t matter how many times a thought pops up. Whack-a-mole it and knock it down by the power of Ruach HaKodesh and the authority of Jesus’ name.
The Mercy of Adonai is part of Ruach HaKodesh and part of our inheritance as believers and servants of Messiah Jesus. It is part and parcel of who He is. It is extended toward us on a consistent basis. It NEVER fades. It NEVER falters. It has been there since Jesus died and actively jumping up and down for our attention since Jesus was raised to life. We need to get our thinking on His level (1 Corinthians 2:16). The Word renews our mind to that kind of thinking. And Ruach is always bringing it to our mind for us to chew on. Like cows we think and think again and then maybe later think some more. When we are thinking on Adonai’s mercy, then we’ll be quick to repent when we fail to trust in Jesus. We’ll also be quick to take the opportunities that arise to develop more of a relationship with Adonai. To develop more trust in Jesus.
Trust in Jesus is how we don’t choose to sin. It’s how we decide to praise. It’s how we keep from FEELING lack, distrust, anxiety, depression, fear, stress, or any other negative emotion. It’s how we keep from abusing people (physically, mentally, OR emotionally. It’s how we bond with Adonai. It’s how we stay connected with Him and always bringing Him into the conversation. It’s how we maintain a humbly submitted attitude. It’s how we worship. And it SHOULD be the barometer by which we live our life. Not feeling the need to ask for forgiveness, but to repent of EVER choosing ANYTHING aside from Trusting Jesus. We need to trust Him in everything, but when we miss it, if we’re willing to repent of not trusting Him, His mercy is there to see us through. Every time.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Psalm 103:13
“As a father pities his children, so Yahweh pities those who fear him.” Fathers care for their kids. There is a LOT that they are willing to do for them. They’ll slave away without thanks. They’ll nurture and uphold the Mother so that she is able to give her best throughout the day. He is the FOUNDATION of the home. The stable, unmoving, and dependable slab that holds things up. He’s not more important than the Mother, they are part of an indivisible team. A covenant partnership designed to build an environment in which the children will thrive, learn, get closer to Adonai, and leave the home ready to start ones of their own. If we will revere Adonai, who has done NOTHING but show humanity mercy, He will view us just like His children. He will show us the sympathy He has for our suffering (Hebrews 4:15). He will gather us like a Father at the end of our day and hold us close. Stabilize us. Recharge us. And get us ready for a new day (Lamentations 3:22-23). What a GOOD God!
