Daily Affirmation #100

I will sacrifice a freewill offering to You; I will give thanks to Your name, O Lord, for it is good” (Psalm 54:6, MEV). The first reason for praise is because God is who God is. Because His NAME is good. Our names are our reputation. They are the standard by which we are judged by people around us. Sometimes because of our actions and sometimes because of other people who had names like ours. God’s name is part and parcel of His CHARACTER. Of His trustworthiness. We have NO OTHER reason that is greater than His character to praise Him. Even if He never had done ANYTHING for humanity. Even if He had left us to get what we deserved. We would STILL have a reason to praise Him. It’s so easy to praise Him when we see evidence of Him moving in our lives or when we receive an encouraging word from Him. But the examples of godly men and women we have in the Word frequently praised Him from negative circumstances. In times of trouble and ordeal. NOT to get Him to do anything, but simply because His NAME was worthy to be praised. In the ancient world they understood something we have forgotten. Your name was a reflection of your character. Of who you were. People’s names often changed during their lifetime and sometimes they were never known by their actual birth name. Because who they WERE and what they DID were how they were known. God is God because He is God. His name reflects that and His nature. He is WORTHY of being praised. Let’s all praise Him today, because of who He is, manifested by His Name.
