“Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have become whole. Sin no more lest something worse happens to you.”” (John 5:14). Does this mean all sickness is based in sin? No! But when we sin we have chosen to NOT trust Jesus. To refuse the Father’s view of us in that situation. We have rebelled and picked up something unclean, bringing it into or onto ourselves. How is it that the body can get sick? We touch, breathe, or consume things with germs and viruses. They enter us and propagate and bingo, bango we feel ill. Sickness. Well, spiritually the same thing happens. By choosing to sin, we are touching germs and viruses of the spirit. We bring them into or onto ourselves. And they do damage. The only spiritual immune system we have is the Word and the Blood of Jesus. But how can we apply it while in rebellion with Him? How can we imagine that we will be able to always apply them when we are choosing to sin? Unless we see how HORRIFIC this attitude of casual sin is, we’ll be stuck in the cycle. We need to truly see sin as SIN (Romans 12:2) before we can choose to run from it, guard against it, and try our best to never, EVER touch it again. Because the longer you play with unclean things, the greater your chances to contract something TRULY deadly – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, relationally, financially, or physically. Why take a chance? Why choose to sin and have worse things happen? Isn’t it better to go the other way? To lean into Him and let HIS love bring us peace? To engage and let His sacrifice renew our cleanliness? To wipe off our muddy image and start to see ourselves as he does? Go to a mirror. Get a cloth. Wipe yourself from head to foot. Wipe that muddy old you off. And when you’re done, use the Word to repaint yourself with HIS abundant life. Believe what HE sees, not what the mirror tells you. He is ALWAYS right.
