“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6, MEV). Tame translation. A more indepth one would be: Nevertheless only goodness and mercy shall pursue, running after me to persecute (persistently and urgently approaching) me the entire total of my life through all my days AND also I will remain, settle, and marry the temple dwelling of Yahweh unto perpetuity forever. All of that is packed into the verse. This is not a timid following after. This isn’t sneaky. This isn’t a toddler getting distracted every few feet. This is powerful, intentional, and almost warlike. The Goodness and the Mercy of Yahweh will be NO WHERE but at your heels. Seeking you like prey. To keep with you closer than a shadow as you dwell forever within the temple of Almighty God focused on the One whose goodness and mercy are your fiercely present companions. That is more than just looking out for us. That’s ferocious mama bear vibes. That’s a help that cannot be lost, left, or ignored. That’s a help easy to fall back into. To rest on and in. To move ever forward while having a protected backside. To know that the only place we cannot see is flooded with all that we need. That is a WONDERFUL promise to walk in during these turbulent days of transformation. We don’t know how things are going to look when they stop, and we don’t know how many more bumps in the road there will be, but through it all we have a cushion of GOODNESS and MERCY direct from Adonai right behind us, preventing our fall – as long as we remain seeking His face.
