Daily Affirmation #114

He overlaid the cherubim with gold” (1 Kings 6:28, MEV). Solomon built a fancy temple, but a lot of things were different from the tabernacle. Yes, it was twice as big. Yes, it was elaborately carved. Yes, it was appointed with precious stones and gold. But many items that had been pure gold in the tabernacle were only plated gold here. There were also more areas (obviously) than previously. The symbology of it doesn’t seem as potent to me. Great building, but a human building. A good idea, but not necessarily a God idea. And God doesn’t tag His presence in it to anything humans did in building it. God tags it to the king’s obedience to Him and His Way. God isn’t concerned with buildings and temples for His use (Isaiah 66:1). He is concerned with the HEART of humanity (Deuteronomy 5:29). Truly, He values obedience and trust more than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). In our world of new, better, best; we need to remember the Gospel is simple. The Lord seeks simple things. Love which breeds trust which breeds obedience. Not flashy. Faithful.
