Daily Affirmation #116

For when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods, and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God as the heart of David his father had been” (1 Kings 11:4, MEV). David was NOT the perfect man of God, was he? He made mistakes. He committed adultery and murder. How is it that he is listed as having a heart perfectly with the Lord? First, David sinned but he was QUICK to repent (2 Samuel 12:13). As soon as the Lord called him on it, he repented. He WANTED to be right with God (Psalm 42). Sin blinded him, but when the blinds were removed? He wasted NO time in humbling himself. Solomon did not do that. Solomon got two direct encounters with God that David never had. Solomon also was talked to between them – probably through a prophet – and was reminded of God’s point of view. Solomon’s story could have gone a very different way. But he did not heed the Lord in his heart. Psalm after Psalm show David seeking God. Messing up, but getting up, turning around, and getting in line with God. David was only truly happy – regardless of his circumstances – when he was following God. We have a better covenant and God’s Spirit is ALWAYS with us, so we have an advantage over David. Are we utilizing it? Are we endeavouring to succeed? It says that if we will seek God, He WILL be found (Jeremiah 29:13). We have no excuse, just like Solomon. Where is your heart? God is hiding. Like a giant toddler behind a much-too-small object, giggling all the while. Will you seek Him? He WILL be found. Our hearts can be right. We can have them turned to Jesus 24/7/365.25. If yours isn’t, start turning around. He’s right there. Waiting to be found.
