Then they departed and went throughout the villages, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
Luke 9:6 (emphasis added)
The disciples are now doing what Jesus WAS doing and had been teaching them about. They were stepping up into the authority and power He was imparting to them (and by extension US as fellow believers and disciples of Jesus). Jesus gave this commission here (Luke 9:1-6). It is also recorded in Matthew 10:1 and Mark 6:7-12. Jesus released a larger group for the same type of mission with the same authority and scope in Luke 10. Adonai is no respecter of persons. What goes with one disciple goes with ALL disciples (Romans 2:11; Acts 10:34).
We are all called to do what Jesus did. “Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me, believe because of the miraculous deeds themselves. I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12). As disciples of Jesus, we are believers. If we are believers, then we qualify for this verse’s promise. A lot of people focus on the “greater deeds” wondering what they might be? What is greater than what Jesus did? Limbs restored, sight restored, even the dead raised. Some argue that we already HAVE done greater things. The disciples went to more places and saw more people come into the Kingdom than Jesus ever did. We have ministered to MILLIONS more. If winning souls is the important thing, then there should be no argument.
Winning souls is NOT the important thing. THE important thing is giving and bringing glory to Elohim. Everything else comes from that. If He is getting glory, we show Him and people can get to where the call comes from (John 6:44; 2 Timothy 1:10). That’s what witnessing is. Showing Adonai’s glory to others. That’s what Jesus did. “Jesus replied, “Have I been with you for so long and yet you have not known me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative, but the Father residing in me performs his miraculous deeds” (John 14:9-10). We are to do the same. When we keep the glory on Adonai where it belongs, we’re humbly submitted and able to be used. The Father residing in us through Jesus will perform His miraculous deeds. Like healing.
The disciples took the authority Jesus gave them and went out preaching, healing, and casting out demons. Nothing stood in their way. Nothing could. They were wielding the Name that had been raised above every other name. “As a result God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). “He has a name written on his clothing and on his thigh: “King of kings and Lord of lords.”” (Revelation 19:16). There is nothing that we cannot do if we do it in alignment with the will of the Father. That is a true statement because we have been given the authority of the Name by Jesus Himself. We can go. We can do. And we WILL when the Father gives us the green light.
That doesn’t mean we sit on the couch watching TV and waiting to see what we hear. We are to prepare ourselves and prepare our kids. Preparation time is NEVER wasted time. If we’re preparing ourselves, we’re working on our relationship with Adonai. When we work on our relationship with Adonai, we are making sure we know what HE wants, how HE feels about things, what HE says is right and wrong. There IS a universal standard of morality and it is HIS. We need to know it. We need to know it AND submit to it. We might not LIKE it, but liking doesn’t matter. Submitting to HIS point of view BECAUSE it is His point of view. Giving Him GLORY for being who He is. For saying what He says. Letting His glory shine as it SHOULD shine and never trying to tarnish it be limiting it or Him.
We have His authority. We know how to use it: do what the Father says, when the Father says, and how the Father says. Don’t turn to the right or left. Don’t disbelieve the Word. Do what it says. Live by His standards of righteousness. Preach the Word. Teach the Word. And allow the Father who resides in you do His mighty and miraculous works through as He wills. We can go ANYWHERE He says. We can do EVERYTHING He says. He does NOT lie. We’re disciples. We’re believers. Depart and proclaim ALL that He has and teach all about who He is.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 55:12-14
“Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, or else I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like me, my close friend in whom I confided. We would share personal thoughts with each other; in God’s temple we would walk together among the crowd.” Messiah would be betrayed by a FRIEND, not an enemy. He would have enemies that plotted against Him. Enemies who sought His life. Enemies that tried to discredit Him. But it was a friend who betrayed Him. A friend who turned Him over. ““What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture, ‘The one who eats my bread has turned against me.’” (John 13:18). Jesus was betrayed by one of His disciples. One of the inner circle of His disciples. A trusted man who watched over the finances of the group. A man who went out preaching the good news and healing those who were sick. A man who ate with Jesus, lived with Jesus, travelled with Jesus, talked with Jesus, and fellowshipped with Jesus. Jesus was betrayed in the worst way. Jesus IS the Messiah!
