with respect to Jesus from Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil because God was with him.
Acts 10:38 (emphasis added)
The will of the Father is ALL that Jesus did. He didn’t do ANYTHING He had not been shown and said NOTHING that His Father hadn’t released Him to say. Jesus WILFULLY put Himself under submission to the Father in Heaven. We know that because Jesus told us that Himself (John 5:30 & 14:31). Because of that, we know EVERYTHING Jesus did IS the Father’s will. Jesus spent His time going about doing GOOD. He didn’t do bad. He didn’t do good enough. He didn’t do could have been better. He did GOOD. The same GOOD that the creation was (Genesis 1:4, for example).
When we examine Jesus’ works and words, we can get a picture for how the Father wants us to behave. We are called to be like Jesus (Philippians 2:5). We are called to do what Jesus did by Jesus Himself (John 14:12). We are to be little Jesus’ here on earth. Known by the love we show others (John 13:35), which is the love that Jesus showed people when He was here and the love He has always showed us. Jesus’ actions are the model for our actions. His ministry the model for our ministry. Anything He did was good and we are to do good as well.
So what was good? Preaching and teaching was good. Jesus did that a LOT (Mark 1:14). Doing good was good. That means not doing bad. We know Jesus kept the Law (1 Peter 2:22; Hebrews 4:15; 1 John 3:5). The moral code of the Law is good. Jesus kept it and in HIM we can too – when we rely on His Spirit to guide us instead of our own bright ideas. The catch is that He had a perfect spirit and we only have one when we are abiding in Him. He IS our perfection. But the things the Law says to do (care for widows and orphans and the poor, honour your parents, keep Elohim first) are good. The things the Law says not to do (lie, steal, cheat, commit adultery, kill) are bad. There is consistency to Jesus and there is supposed to be consistency with us too.
Healing was also good. So was healing demon possession. Physical healing, mental healing, emotional healing, spiritual healing, demonic possession healing. ALL healing is good. That means ALL sickness is bad. Period. Across the board. That means that healing is still for today. Why would Adonai suddenly change His mind when the Word says He doesn’t do that (1 Samuel 15:29, Psalm 110:4)? The answer is that He wouldn’t, didn’t, and won’t. Healing is still good. Healing can still be commanded (vs prayed and/or begged for – Acts 3:1-10). Healing can still be asked for (though it should never be prayed for without expecting a full, complete healing because that mixes doubt with belief – James 1:2-8).
Depression is oppressive. Anxiety is oppressive. Sickness is oppressive. Disease is oppressive. Mental disorders are oppressive. Confusion about who you are or even what gender you are is oppressive. Confusion or doubt about your sexuality is oppressive. Fear, worry, and being fearful is oppressive. Toiling is oppressive. Shame is oppressive. Unproductiveness is oppressive. Failure to function how the human body was designed to function is oppressive. Failed, failing, and strained relationships are oppressive. NOTHING oppressive is GOOD. Jesus went about healing all who were oppressed. Oppression is designed to steal your joy, kill your ease of living life, and destroy everything you love or even like. That is what the devil does (John 10:10).
Why would anyone want to go along with anything the devil wanted? He isn’t exactly what I would call a winner. And he hates everything. A petulant child with a kitchen knife is still a child, but you’d take care around it, right? The devil is the same, except he doesn’t have a knife. He just has words. He’s good with them. He’s loud with them. But they’re only words until WE let him do something with them. Until WE let go of our authority. Until WE let him convince us that we don’t have place in the Kingdom. Until WE let him convince us healing was for bible times, they Holy Spirit isn’t biblical, and prosperity is a devil doctrine. He has nothing to hurt us with except our own selves. He can’t create. He can’t think of original ideas. He doesn’t have ANY power of his own. All he has is a bag of illusions and words he uses to make himself big. He is a lion prowling around in the shadows waiting for a chance to strike and cause damage. Don’t let him. Don’t follow his agenda. Follow Jesus’ agenda. Go around doing GOOD.
Get connected to the Word. Keep under its tutelage. Don’t let go. Read it. Devour it. Get it into you so the Holy Spirit can start pulling it out and speaking to you about it. Let Adonai renew your mind with it. Listen. Pray. Wait on Him. Praise the Father. And whenever you are out and about, do good. Where you find oppression, be light. Be ready to bless. Be quick to love. Forgive all who wrong you. Do good. Be the kind of person everyone is happy to see come into the room. Do good. Be willing to heal and bring healing wherever you find yourself. Do good. Jesus did. We can too. We can do the works Jesus did if we stand on the Word and abide in Jesus. If we rest in Him, we’ll always know what to do and when to do it. The Father will tell Jesus, Jesus will tell us, and both the Holy Spirit and the Word will confirm it. None of this happens in a vacuum. We’re to test what we hear and hold to the GOOD (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Do good. Go about doing good. And if you have no clear direction, do good.
Remember that Jesus did it because Elohim was with Him. Adonai is with US too. He has promised NEVER to forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He keeps His promises. And when we KNOW that Jesus is with us, we know the TRUTH of His statement to us (John 16:33) confirmed by John: “You are from God, little children, and have conquered them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). We can do GOOD because Adonai is with us. When He is with us, and we are connected to Him, there is nothing BUT good that we can do. Anything else would be less than we can be. No one wants to be that. Do Good. It’s the ONLY way to fly.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 68:18
“You ascend on high; you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed, the Lord God lives there.” Messiah was to ascend into heaven. To go up as VERY few others ever had (Enoch and Elijah come to mind). This would be an EXTREMELY visible proof to those witnessing that it was indeed Messiah who had been among them. “Now during the blessing he departed and was taken up into heaven” (Luke 24:51). Jesus bodily ascended into heaven. He rose up until they could no longer see Him who had just been standing with them. Jesus ascended. Jesus IS the Messiah!
