“To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6, MEV). Anything ‘carnal’ is anything of the flesh. Not sex, perse, but anything that focuses on this world and its ways instead of the Kingdom and God’s ways. If we think with the mindset this world has we will fit in. By the mercy of God we might gain some success. But we also accept a lot of things no one really would want. Sickness. Disease. Lack. Shame. Toil. Being unproductive, or not nearly as productive as you could be. Depression. Anxiety. Thirstiness. Problems. These are all things that have no place in the Kingdom, but saturate the world. On the other side of things, the Kingdom is full of peace and life. Work that doesn’t exhaust. Health. Self-respect. Productivity. Wisdom. Easy breathing. Being satisfied. Needs met, and some more left over. Satiation. It takes a shift of mindset. From what we see as the natural to what God sees as natural. Disconnecting from the grind and connecting to the vine. When God becomes our source for everything, worries melt away. Situations remain, but when we ask, God gives us the wisdom to see the solution He has in mind. Problems disappear when we know that God isn’t taken by surprise and He has a solution waiting for us to pick up. These situations are not always pleasant, but they aren’t sources of worry, stress, depression, or desperation. Free from begging, we can praise and thank and receive the instructions that when walked through will lead to the victory Jesus already won for us. Abundant life. Lasting peace. Who would want to live any other way?
