Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they?
1 Corinthians 12:30 (emphasis added)
There are many plumbers in the Body of Christ. Many housewives. Many executives of both sexes. School teachers. Lawyers. Accountants. Taxi drivers. Waiters and waitresses. Actors and Actresses. The list goes on an on. Those believers can speak in tongues. They can heal. They can have miracles performed through them. Every believer can do the works that Jesus did (John 14:12) because they have the mind of Messiah (1 Corinthians 2:16) and the Spirit of Jesus dwelling inside them (Romans 8:9-10). But none of these believers are doing it as their VOCATION. It is not their MINISTRY, but their right as believers.
A lot of people will teach these verses as an excuse to not manifest these gifts at any time. That is wrong. That is the enemy inspiring teaching that prevents believers from walking in their full capacity and freedom (Mark 4:15). We have the mind of Jesus. The SAME MIND. Our spirits are PERFECTED and SEALED by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). We ALL have gifts that we are to use daily (1 Peter 4:10-11). We ALL have access to the gifts of the Spirit as the Lord directs us in any given situation (1 Corinthians 14:1–5). But we each have been given individual gifts that we use for our ministries – whether those are world-spanning ministries or ministry to those who come across our path or ministry in the church to the Body of Christ. “For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function, so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another. And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith. If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach; if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness” (Romans 12:4-8).
Don’t let yourself get sold a short stick when Adonai is giving you a stick long enough to poke sickness no matter where its found. You might not be meant to pastor a church. Or evangelise in a stadium. Or head to another country, or even a different part of your own. You might not be called to heal all the sick as they are brought to you, or have your shadow be the catalyst for people’s trust in Jesus as you walk down the street (Acts 5:15-16). Yet every believer who is trusting in Jesus can have miraculous things done through them. We can even have a healing pass through our clothes (Matthew 9:20-21). We can do everything Jesus did and anything the disciples or apostles did – IF we are doing what they did.
One they did is operate in their gifting. The preachers preached. The teachers taught. The healers went healing. They did what they were called to do by Adonai and did through the guidance of the Holy Spirit according to the Word. They didn’t go do whatever they wanted wherever they wanted to (Acts 16:7). We should do the same. THAT is how I know we can perform ANY of the gifts when needed. It will be Adonai who is telling you to perform it. it will be Adonai who wants to work through you at that time doing that specific thing. We are all called to one or two gifts more than others, but we can do ANYTHING Adonai needs for us to do at ANY time that He needs it done.
Do we TRUST Jesus? That’s the thing. That is what we need built up through the Word (Romans 10:17, 12:2). We need perfect trust to do things perfectly. Since we need a constant application of the Word, we will rarely be ‘perfect’. But the stronger our trust, the easier it is to submit to the Word and do what it says. You can’t rely on someone else’s ministry to do yours. Yes, two or more gathered together is a powerful dynamic (Matthew 18:20). But if they are not of ONE mind (Acts 4:32-35), they are unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
Do they trust what you trust? Not just Jesus (all believers should do that). But that Jesus already did all the things (John 19:30). That healing is yours or deliverance or the solution to the problem. That you already HAVE victory and you’re checking in with the Father on the how and when as you praise. It does NO good for you to join together with someone who doesn’t believe what you believe because the strongest trust tends to win out. Imagine being in a car and fighting over who gets the wheel. Whoever grabs it is the one who will determine where the vehicle goes. Generally, the strongest person in that contest will get the wheel. If I am believing strongly that I already have my healing but I am being prayed for or am praying with someone who is absolutely convinced that healing passed away and it is up to Adonai whether to heal today, then their belief will muddy or overshadow mine and we do NOT have a prayer of agreement. We have a praying match. Adonai doesn’t listen to strife. He ONLY hears FAITH (John 9:31; Proverbs 15:29).
Adonai wants us to build up our trust in Jesus because it is only by having trust in Jesus that we gain access to what He has given us in the Spirit (Ephesians 1:3). We need to engage our trust to access the blessings and gifts with effectiveness. We have to know these things to be truths before we can do that. Ever tried to engage something that wasn’t there? Or engage a transmission without taking off the parking break? It is not effective. We are meant to know these things are true and walk in them. We can do everything Jesus did when we are actively abiding in HIM where ALL wisdom and ALL knowledge are available to us through the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:3-14).
No, we all do not have the VOCATION of healing. But through us ALL anyone can be healed by what Jesus did on the cross. Jesus DID the work. We can ENGAGE the work. If we align with Him there is no reason to doubt that what He set up to operate through us will do anything BUT work. This is the freedom of the Body of Christ. A variety of vocations to fill every need without anyone suffering burn out. Availability of all to be stand-ins for emergency situations. Every base covered. Every ‘i’ dotted. We have this because HE has us.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 69:8
“My own brothers treat me like a stranger; they act as if I were a foreigner.” Messiah was to be a stranger to His own brethren. Known in some ways, but unknown in others. A paradox of being a Jew born in Bethlehem, but unknown at the same time. A mixture of the mortal and the divine. A righteous man among the unrighteous. A UNIQUE individual. The ONLY one who EVER was born without the sin of Adam by the merit of having no earthly father. “He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him” (John 1:11). “(For not even his own brothers believed in him.)” (John 7:5). Even as a child Jesus was unknown by those around Him (Luke 2:41-51). Jesus’ father was in heaven. Yahweh Most High. Jesus was known, by was also unknown. Jesus IS the Messiah!
