And this I pray: that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment
Philippians 1:9
Ruach HaKodesh always helps, but He helps alongside prayer because that not only prepares our hearts but declares our cooperation. We’re good at saying amen in church. We’re good at getting inspired and fired when we see something in the Word or when we get light on our calling from Adonai. But TIME is not something we have befriended. As it passes, we lose that enthusiasm. We let the flame die down. And sooner or later, we grind to a stop and start treading water. Prayer is not asking for things. Prayer is communication. It can include asking, but it is communication. A two-way discussion designed to align our hearts with Adonai’s.
The heart of Adonai is mercy, love, and grace. We know that from His character. It is the fuel that keeps flames high. We get access to it through prayer. It is the reasoning together, looking at all the points like in a court of law, in order to arrive as a communal decision that aligns with all those points (Isaiah 1:18). It’s prayer that accomplishes that. The Word renews our minds (Romans 12:2), but prayer aligns us to the right use of our minds. Learning about all that Adonai has in mind for us and then how to make it actionable. Prayer. Communication. Praise. Listening. Discussion. Thanksgiving. Asking is part of it, but it is asking questions to better or further understand what is being discussed. We don’t have to bother to ask for needs, because Adonai ALWAYS fills them (Matthew 6:31-33). Not needing to ask for our needs frees us to discuss what’s really important: the heart of Adonai and how we can cooperate with Him in making it manifest on this Earth (Matthew 6:10).
Ruach HaKodesh is the voice we hear the most often. All of Adonai speaks to us, but Ruach HaKodesh is our constant companion (Hebrews 13:5). We need to be abundant in love. It is the light of Adonai, shown to all the world around us. We’ll be known by our love, because it is HIS love in and through us that they see (John 13:35). Love is how we apply our knowledge. Love is how we apply our discernment. Without the filter of love, we don’t really know how to use either of those. If you don’t believe that, look around at the world. Lots of people with knowledge and discernment. But look what they do with it. Look at the effect of what they do. There is pain everywhere. Dissatisfaction. Thorns. Only when we do things with HIS love do we get results without ANY pain. Without ANY thorns. It’s true in every arena of our lives. It’s only through Adonai that good things come to be without any issues. It is a mark of His grace and mercy. We get those kinds of things with prayer. Because that conversation with Adonai is what shows us how, when, and where He wants His love applied. It’s our opportunity to see things as He does.
That’s not easy. It’s simple, but not easy. It’s hard to let go. Of our thinking. Our opinions. Our prejudice. Our emotions. Ruach HaKodesh is there to help us. He meets us in the prayer closet and reminds us of what it is. A conversation. A discussion. A melding of minds. From His and ours to His IN ours (1 Corinthians 2:16). He helps us connect. He helps us hear. He helps us with what to say. He is a partner in our prayer where we learn to fully cooperate with Adonai. Without Him, we simply don’t abound as we should. We are built to need Him, and thank Adonai, we are freely given Him. Join hands with Him whenever you pray and truly enter into discussion with Adonai Elohim.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Romans 8:26
“And likewise also, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as one ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unexpressed groanings.” It’s hard to know what to say in many situations. How do you find the words to truly touch someone’s heart and make a difference? Now multiply that by a million as we try and interact with Adonai Himself. That’s a lot of wordage that we may or may not be applying properly. Are we saying the right thing? Dealing with the right issue? Thank Adonai we don’t need to worry or be anxious about it. Ruach HaKodesh works with us. In fact, many times He can work in our stead. Praying through OUR spirit and saying what needs to be said. For us. For others. Not leaving us lost and confused. He guides us in ALL things and in ALL ways when we humbly submit to Him. He doesn’t leave us helpless, but BECOMES our help. How great is that? What a GOOD God!
