Ruach HaKodesh “Lamplight”

The lamp of Yahweh is the spirit of humankind, he who searches every innermost part.

Proverbs 20:27

There is nowhere to hide from Adonai. We can be as sneaky as we want to be and we can pull the wool over the eyes of people, companies, governments, and nations. But we cannot hide from Adonai. There is a light shining on us all. Until we are born again and made new inside (2 Corinthians 5:17-21), we are blind to it. But the light is there just the same. Under the Old Covenant, it shone to show the need – regardless of what anyone else saw – for a Saviour. Inside the New Covenant it shines to show our need to trust Jesus in each and every situation we find ourselves in – private or public. Ruach HaKodesh is the flame of that lamp.

Everything we do and everything that we expose ourselves to is illuminated by that lamp. It is the light that is showing us what we can be and how we can be it. Under the Old Covenant, blood sacrifice of animals within specific parameters could ‘cover’ their sin – it was not forgotten, but it wouldn’t be charged to their account. The Law showed them all the ways that they needed to be covered. It was more ways than anyone could achieve because it had to be inside and out. In the heart and mind as well as exterior actions and words. Perfection. No one with a sin nature could do that, so they were told that it was a placeholder until their Saviour came. They needed a Saviour to live like that. In the New Covenant, we are in Jesus – the perfect One and Saviour – so we CAN live like that IF we are submitted to Him heart and mind, action and word. He has a certain standard of living and in Him, we can have almost the same (without a renewed body we have some limitations). We can have health, peace, joy, all needs met, and everything else the Word promises us. The promises of Adonai are a glimpse into what should be our normal. A glimpse at how we were meant to live. Almost all of what we accept as ‘normal’ is a broken version of what was meant to be.

The Lamp of Yahweh shines into those glimpses. It shines into our hearts and reveals their true condition. It shows us where we could trust Jesus more. It shows us where we’re still holding onto broken thinking. It shows us all the areas of improvement available to us, and also the areas where we are already successfully trusting Jesus. So it is opportunity for change and opportunity for thanksgiving all in one. Adonai could do that in any way He chose to. He chose Ruach HaKodesh because instead of just shining a light or pointing out an opportunity, Ruach HaKodesh engages with us in the process.

Ruach HaKodesh is our guide. He is our counsellor. He is our corrector. He is our teacher. He reminds us of what we’ve studied and learned. He points us to resources that will be a benefit to us. He uses Himself and those around us in this world who trust in Him to get our attention. He doesn’t make us figure it out ourselves. He works it through with us. Private tutor in how to live in Jesus. And He has the power to back it all up. These aren’t empty words or hollow promises. This is the real deal. This is the power of Yahweh funnelled through Ruach HaKodesh (Romans 8:11). This is the Light of LIFE shining through you. This is the true spirit of humankind: Jesus’ own Spirit which He gave to us so that we could inhabit the New Covenant with Him (1 John 4:13). This is the greatest gift ever. The one we would not have received if Jesus had stayed with us (John 16:7). This is the Light that illuminates our life. The lamp that is with all of us. Always.

Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: John 8:12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” We have a GREAT God. He does not rely on us for the important things. He makes the tools, not us. He gives the power, not us. He prepares the way, not us. He does ALL the heavy lifting. There are those who follow Adonai with a dedication that is both admirable and desirable (Moses, John the Baptist). But most of us don’t. Most of us are lazy. Most of us drop the ball in one way or another. It isn’t great, but it is true. Jesus is the Light of the Word. He – in Himself – is that flame. We don’t need to kindle it. We don’t need to feed it. We don’t need to tend it. It IS. It doesn’t RELY on us, but it is AVAILABLE to us. All of us. From the nicest of the nice to the cruellest of the cruel. We have ALL fallen short and it is there for ALL of us. We don’t have to pay for it, we only have to accept it. Then we have the PRIVILEGE of walking in it. Walking in His light. Walking in His understanding. Walking in His LOVE – which is a three-way street (Him to us, us to Him, us to each other). It’s there for us because He loves us. No other reason. Isn’t that marvellous? What a GOOD God!

I taste and see that Yahweh is good; I am blessed because I take refuge in Him.
