“Surely the Lord God does nothing without revealing His purpose to His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7, MEV). Why does God bother? We don’t always listen to Him, do we? And when we do we tend to downplay it. Sure, God says there’s going to be a disaster, but it won’t be THAT bad, right? He wouldn’t do that to us. Right? And if He was going to, what could WE do about it? If He says it is, then it will be, right? The truth is that every word from God is a prophetic promise or a prophetic warning. God will tell us whether or not it is immutable, unchangeable, or fixed. Otherwise, He is looking for cooperators to partner with Him. To bring His will to pass. Sometimes it’s an opportunity to repent. Sometimes it’s an opportunity to partner with Jesus in some kind of intercession. The Holy Spirit will lead you in the way He wants you to go. We see it in the life of Hezekiah when he was told he was going to die in order to be given the opportunity to seek God’s face, repent, and ask for mercy. Why? So God could give him 15 more years and the assignment to lead his country through a hostile invasion. Sometimes pronouncements are pronouncements. But sometimes, pronouncements are opportunities given by God to seek His face intently and in humble submission. Never forsake an opportunity to seek Him when He gives it. He does NOTHING without giving us that chance.
