Fear No Fear

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:44-45, MEV). Why is it we keep thinking God is a smiter? That He’s up there waiting to drop the boom on us? The gods this world creates are like that. They’re petty. They can be childish. They have to be appeased. They leave you uncertain as to what will be. Or they require YOU to do the work. Not Yahweh God Almighty. He’s the God who tells us what will be long before it happens. He’s the God who LOVES. He looks down on the evil and the good and gives them the same physical home with the same signs of His Glory. Since Jesus paid for and dealt with sin as a whole, He is not bringing judgment, but mercy and grace. He is telling us ALL that it is OVER. The war against sin is OVER. We can all be on the winning side. We can all sit in the place of His Blessing. Isn’t that great? No unknowns. No things to figure out later. No need to justify all your actions and THEN find out where you stand. We don’t have to work it out ourselves. We aren’t responsible for the heavy lifting. He is clear. He is forward speaking – letting us know ends before they even begin. He is perfect, kind, patient, loving, doesn’t play favourites, faithful in His promises, and so, SO good. He really is a GREAT God.
