Daily Affirmation #164

I have wandered like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your commandments” (Psalm 119:176, MEV). When we remember the Word, it is like setting off a coloured smoke plume so that Search and Rescue can find you. It’s a flare shot high into the night sky. It reveals us as obedient children to the Lord – not that He doesn’t always see us (Proverbs 15:3). But it IS our call to Him. He encourages us to call to Him so that He can respond to us – it’s a free will thing (Matthew 7:7). This is why Jesus came: to find the lost sheep in distress. “All of us like sheep have gone astray; each of us has turned to his own way, but the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6, MEV). We can call to Jesus, bleat with our hearts and be answered. Not because of our own merits. But because the Word is true and we have the Word in us. This is not a verse about the sinner finding salvation. This is a believer who went off on their own. Who was selfish and didn’t trust in Jesus. Then they remember the Word (John 14:26) and cry out, turning around and heading toward Jesus – who will be RIGHT THERE seeking us first. This is repentance. This is the faithfulness of God. That He seeks His own and does not lose them (John 10:28-30). Isn’t that great? Even when we miss it, we’re reminded of His faithfulness and how to do it right. How to turn to Him. How to throw ourselves into His arms QUICKLY (Acts 3:19). What a great God, not waiting for us, but giving us the tools IN ADVANCE to turn back to Him in all our self-made distresses. He loves us SO much.
