“Restore us to Yourself, O Lord, that we may return! Renew our days as of old” (Lamentations 5:21, MEV). Jeremiah was lamenting the fate of Jerusalem and Judah. People carried off into captivity. The city and the Temple sacked, burnt, and brought to ruin. He was praying that the Lord would see fit to look on the people with favour again. That the Lord would turn His face and draw His people back to Him forever. His prayer was answered by the arrival of Messiah Jesus. “No one can come to Me unless the Father who has sent Me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day” (John 6:44, MEV). What a great gift! The Father calls us and Jesus stands there to usher us into the presence of the Father. Jesus enables us to answer the call. THAT is why He came. Not to judge, but to offer mercy and grace before the time of judging (John 3:16-18; Matthew 25:31-46). Jesus is the Way to the Father. He isn’t lying, but telling the absolute truth. Everything about the Kingdom and the new life we get from the Father (emotionally, relationally, financially, health-wise, etc), we get because of what Jesus came to do (2 Corinthians 5:21). What a great God of mercy we serve! What Good News! Let’s not keep it to ourselves. The Father is STILL CALLING. Jeremiah’s prayer is STILL BEING ANSWERED. Let’s cooperate with God and get done what HE wants done (Matthew 19:26). Let’s spread His love.
