“How fair you are, my love! How very fair! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats, streaming down the hills of Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes that have come up from the washing, all of which bear twins, and not one among them has lost its young. Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Your cheeks are halves of a pomegranate behind your veil” (Song of Solomon 4:1-3, MEV). God loves us so much He uses all the words available to describe us how HE sees us. He doesn’t want us to rely on mirrors. He doesn’t want us to rely on other people’s opinions. He wants us to rely on what HE says about us. He wants us to realise what HE thinks about us. To see what HE sees when we look in a mirror, instead of all the lies. He wants us to realise what we really are. WHO we really are. He wants our self-esteem to be based on HIS opinions. He wants our self-image to be based on HIS perspective. He wants us to see what HE sees (2 Corinthians 5:21) and know what HE knows (1 Corinthians 2:16). Our feelings and our perspectives are susceptible to influence from any and every source that comes by. The world, friends, co-workers, employers, governments, special interest groups, professionals, amateurs, and social media. Even the devil. God wants us to count on a more STABLE viewpoint and opinion (Hebrews 13:8). His. He KNOWS us better than WE know ourselves. We can TRUST Him. We can BELIEVE Him. We can engage what He says we can engage. We can have HIS opinion of ourselves. He LOVES us and He is NOT SHY about telling us. What WE need to do is to LISTEN. Every day, all the time. It is THE TRUTH and He establishes us in that truth in and through Jesus. In HIM we can be all that He says we can be (John 15:5).
