Daily Affirmation #174

I composed and quieted my desire, like a child given suck by his mother; like a child who sucks is my desire within me” (Psalm 131:2, MEV). Jesus told us that we needed to be like little children if we truly wanted to interact fully with the Kingdom (Matthew 18:3). He NEVER keeps children from interacting with Himself (Matthew 19:14). Children trust. That’s a simple interpretation. We need to be like children because we need to trust God and children naturally trust until they are taught not to. But children ALSO view their parents as their source. Yes, they might demand to dress themselves or tie their own shoes or make their own cereal, but the clothes, shoes, and food were provided by the parents and the child EXPECTS them to provide them. There isn’t a shadow of a maybe of a doubt. It is an assumed thing. It is so assumed that whenever they want anything, they come to their parents and ask for it. They don’t concern themselves with expense or difficulty in obtaining. They want it, they expect the parent to provide it. If only we could train ourselves to think that way in regards to God. Not to demand unreasonable things that have no use but as possessions (that would be greed). But to realise that He AUTOMATICALLY takes care of our needs, and WILL provide our wants – as long as our motives for wanting are godly, not gimmie. There may be time that passes. There may be some participation – after all, we are cooperators with Him, not demanders. But a trusting child doesn’t let that concern them. He said He would, so He will and I’ll be patient and wait and enjoy it when it arrives. Composed and quiet like a child just fed on its mother’s lap. Confident in who their source is. Not only assuming they will be taken care of, but acting in all ways like they will be taken care of. He is our FATHER and we are His CHILDREN. It’s about time we acted like it.
