Daily Affirmation #177

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like precious oil upon the head, that runs down on the beard—even Aaron’s beard—and going down to the collar of his garments; as the dew of Hermon, that descends upon the mountains of Zion, for there the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life forever” (Psalm 133. MEV). At the tower of Babel (Genesis 11), the ungodly were refusing to obey the Lord. They had been commanded to fill the Earth. But they were building a tower of power to keep themselves together. To make a monument by which they would always be remembered. A power base where they could do it all themselves, their way, and put themselves in the position of their own lord and master. God confused their language so that they would have an opportunity to seek Him. An opportunity for people to find Him instead of focusing on themselves. He restrained the ungodly with confusion. Therefore, the opposite is true. God Blesses the righteous with unity. We get freedom when we are united together before Him. Eighty-two (and a few) men and women changed the world they lived in because they were UNITED in purpose, worship, and prayer (Acts 2:1; 4:24). When they did, there was a GREAT move of the Lord – they were cooperating with Him TOGETHER. A lot of what happens in the world today is fuelled by small groups and individuals. Can you imagine what the Lord could do if we ALL cooperated with Him TOGETHER? There is an anointing on TOGETHERNESS that is not present individually. We are strengthened when we are in unity. We are empowered by Holy Spirit when we are in unity. The greatest physical arrival of God’s glory in scripture took place when people were in UNITY. We should all be striving to be united together in Jesus and before Jesus. Sure, we won’t agree on all our ideas. We’ll have differences. But those differences should make us full of variety, not separation. If we let Holy Spirit guide, lead, correct, and teach us; we will be able to walk in the unity of the Spirit. Think of what we will see accomplished when we do. Think of what a WITNESS that will be to the world. “Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to live in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called: with all humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; one body and one Spirit (just as also you were called with one hope of your calling), one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all” (Ephesians 4:1-6).
