Daily Affirmation #200

The Lord God made garments of skins for both Adam and his wife and clothed them” (Genesis 3:21, MEV). Adam and Eve were already covered. They had made clothes of a kind for themselves in Genesis 3:7. The nakedness that they now perceived with shame and embarrassment (vs 8-10) was covered and taken care of. God didn’t let them go out like that. He made them clothes. Good clothes. REALLY good clothes. I don’t know if I agree with the legend, but it is held by the Rabbis that Adam’s robe was so fine it was coveted by others. Nimrod got his hands on it and it became a robe of office. Essau is supposed to have defeated Nimrod and taken the robe and this was what Jacob wore falsely to get the blessing. It apparently went down through several hands and became the spare robes of the king of Edom when he visited Jericho – the very robe Achan stole when the Israelites sacked Jericho. If there is even a smidget of truth to the legend, these were VERY fine clothes indeed. Why would God have provided them with such splendid clothing when they had just sinned? Because His love for us isn’t dependent on our performance. That’s how Jesus came to take our place. He planned it, decided on it, and spiritually accomplished it before the world was even made (Revelation 13:8). He came and died for us when we weren’t asking Him to. He did it for ALL people even when they were AGAINST Him. He LOVES us that much! He is a GOOD God! He provides for us. He blesses us. ALL good things ANYONE experiences or receives originate at the Throne. He LOVES us. THAT is why He died for us. He doesn’t want us to end up away from Himself. He wants us close forever. He wants to enjoy relationship with those whom He loves. Why did He make sinners splendid clothes? Because He wanted them to have nice things. He LOVED them and He LOVES you.
