Psalm 12 is a complaint or acknowledgement of how wicked humanity can be and a declaration of thanksgiving about how faithful and consistent God is.
Psalm 13 is a prayer of FEELING abandoned – not BEING abandoned. Unjustly persecuted. Enemies gloating. But the psalmist declares that even FEELING like this, he KNOWS he is being dealt with by God fairly, in mercy, being saved, and that he is prospering. It is a GREAT declaration of trust in God that the psalm ends with.
Psalm 14 is a shaking of the head at how the ungodly live their lives and also how they think. How they have twisted how God really is with how they think He is (and doesn’t matter). It is also a declaration of the truth that in the end, God wins.
Psalm 15 speaks of the type of character found in those who trust in God and seek His face. The things that they do/don’t do because those things are incompatible with God and with God is how they seek to live.
Psalm 16 is rejoicing and thanking God for all He does. For the salvation he brings. For the rescuing He does. For the Messiah who makes it all possible.
Psalm 17 is a praise report of how the psalmists life changed because of God. A thanking God for the lovingkindness and mercy He always showed. A rejoicing in the victory that God brings about as He fights for His child. A declaration of the satisfaction found in God’s ways.
“And he said: “I love you, O Yahweh, my strength.” Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold. I called upon Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised, and I was saved from my enemies. The ropes of death encircled me, and streams of ruin overwhelmed me. The ropes of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. In my trouble I called on Yahweh, and to my God I cried for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help.” (Psalm 18:1-6)
Psalm 18 is a beautiful song of dependence and thanksgiving for all that the Lord has done. For the protection in deadly situations. For the deliverance from ALL enemies. For the foundation of securing and strength that came from the Lord. The support the Lord was and that He provided at all times and in all situations. For the Mercy God showed. For the Light God was. This is also quoted in 2 Samuel 22.
Psalm 19 is a declaration that everything that has been created speaks of God’s glory. All of creation shows us that there is a God and He is good. It speaks of the perfection of the Word and the rightness of God’s morals and point of view. It is a request for understanding and revelation of God’s Word so that the psalmist can always walk in his ways.
Psalm 20 is an assurance that God answers. God delivers. God provides. God can be trusted in. God should be remembered. And God should be worshipped. He answers when we call on Him.
