Daily Affirmation #209

You shall have no other gods before Me” Exodus 20:3, MEV). Much like the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and John 14:15, this command is more than a command. It is more than an instruction telling you to do something. It is more than a positive to keep a negative from you. It (and ALL commandments) is a picture of what life is like when you seek Him first (Matthew 6:33). If you are living in Covenant with Him (Luke 22:20), you will need no other gods. If you are living in Covenant with Him, He is your Source of all things (John 15:5). There won’t BE anything or anyone you look to more than Him. He will be THE One for you. It becomes a great warning light. A spiritual caution light. If you find that you have ANYTHING or ANYONE in front of Him (Colossians 3:5), you are NOT walking in Covenant with Him. It’s your flashing yellow that should slow you down to a stop. You’re headed in the WRONG direction. The road is no longer straight. Cliffs ahead. Snake coming! When HE is the ONLY One, we know we are walking the right direction. We still might stumble when we take our eyes off Him, but we have Him in the right place. It is the natural consequence of consciously being in Covenant. When we are intent about Covenant, we put Him in His place. When we put Him in His place, we are intentful about Covenant. They are joined at the hip. It is the starting point of reverence. If you aren’t in your place with Him in His proper place, you aren’t seeing the differences between your standing. If you aren’t doing that, how can you revere Him? But if you see the differences between you, and you have Him where He rightly deserves to be, you naturally worship Him. You naturally look to Him for your needs and wants. For guidance. For everything. In fact, He will be number one and the main driving point of your life. If you live in Covenant with Him, there will be NO OTHER GODS in your life. It is a great system of thinking that helps us keep the One who loves us where He belongs: Our Source.
