Daily Affirmation #214

The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. When He had unrolled the scroll, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Then He rolled up the scroll, and He gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all those who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him” (Luke 4:17-20, MEV). Jesus’ mission included a LOT of things. And none of them were deserved by either those who experienced them or us. Yet Jesus still came to perform them. And commissioned those who believe in Him and submit to Him as Lord to perform them. This is GRACE, not as a NOUN (the unmerited favour of God), but as a VERB. Grace is an ACTION, not just a GIFT. We are in the Age of Grace. That is the Church Age. The Body of Christ Age. The Age in which we all need to walk in Grace. Not just for our OWN salvation and relationship with God, but as active participants in SPREADING His Grace. That’s the GOOD NEWS, right? No longer a war between God and Man. Sin done away with. We can get back. Back to being whole-hearted. Back to being delivered from captivity. Back to seeing clearly. Back to being set at liberty from our oppressors. Back to not being poor and surrounded by lack. Back to being healed. Back to participating in the Kingdom by spreading the Garden of Grace to fill the whole Earth (Genesis 1:28; 2:15). All of it possible because Jesus loved us enough to deliver the Way to us. That’s not just Grace, but Mercy. Let’s cooperate and embody that mission, just like Jesus did. It’s too good to keep to ourselves. He made the Way for everyone!
