Psalm 106 is a joyful song thanking God for all His mercy toward His children, the Israelites. In spite of all the ways they went wrong, He always gave them a way back. It was, and is, a blessing to them how He ALWAYS deals with them in mercy through grace – and even more so us in the New Covenant!
Psalm 107 is another joyful expression and acknowledgement of how God delivers. It is a call for ALL the redeemed of the Lord to always have these words of thanksgiving on their lips and in their hearts. It speaks of the satisfaction in Him that we can have. It speaks of the mercy of the Lord. It speaks of His protections and the redemption He makes available to us.
Psalm 109 is an Old Covenant plea for judgment on the enemies of the psalmist. Specifically, those who bring false accusations against him. This is also a prophetic psalm looking forward to Jesus and what He did, how He was assailed, and how false testimony was brought against Him. But Jesus walked through it and overcame it. In Him, we are able to show God’s grace and mercy to everyone, instead of needing to call for God’s judgment against our foes. It is a testament both to the suffering Jesus underwent, but also of the victory He wrought for us.
